New therapeutic approaches are needed for the management of the highly chemo- and radioresistant chondrosarcoma (CHS). In this work, we used polyethylene glycol-encapsulated iron oxide nanoparticles for the intracellular delivery of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin (IONP) to augment the cytotoxic effects of carbon ions in comparison to photon radiation therapy. The in vitro biological effects were investigated in SW1353 chondrosarcoma cells focusing on the following parameters: cell survival using clonogenic test, detection of micronuclei (MN) by cytokinesis blocked micronucleus assay and morphology together with spectral fingerprints of nuclei using enhanced dark-field microscopy (EDFM) assembled with a hyperspectral imaging (HI) module.

Introduction: One of the promising leads for the rapid discovery of alternative antimicrobial agents is to repurpose other drugs, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) for fighting bacterial infections and antimicrobial resistance.
Methods: A series of new carbazole derivatives based on the readily available anti-inflammatory drug carprofen has been obtained by nitration, halogenation and N-alkylation of carprofen and its esters. The structures of these carbazole compounds were assigned by NMR and IR spectroscopy.

Two miniaturized electrochemical devices were designed for the simultaneous bioanalysis of MMR (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, PMS2), and of KRAS in whole blood, urine, saliva, and tumoral tissues. The devices comprised besides the electronic part of the potentiostat a combined 3D stochastic microsensor (combined microplatform) with the sensing part based on the modification of graphene decorated with nitrogen, sulfur and boron (NSB-EGR) modified with two types of frutafit: FTEX and FHD. For the assay of MSH2, MSH6, KRAS, and PMS2 higher sensitivities were recorded when the microdevice based on FHD was used, while for the assay of MLH1 the best sensitivity was achieved by using the microdevice based on FTEX.

The vermiform appendix is a muscular cylindrical structure originating near the junction of the cecum and ileum, averaging 9 cm (5-35 cm) in size. As the most mobile viscera, it can adopt several positions, the most common being the retrocecal position. Perceived as an atavistic organ lacking physiological relevance, the vermiform appendix appears to be involved in immune function, serving in the maturation of B lymphocytes and the production of immunoglobulin A, in endocrine function, excreting amines and hormones in the 2-3 mL of mucus secreted daily, and in digestive function, by storing beneficial bacteria from where they can recolonize the colon.

The recognized antimicrobial activity of silver nanoparticles is a well-studied property, especially when designing and developing biomaterials with medical applications. As biological activity is closely related to the physicochemical characteristics of a material, aspects such as particle morphology and dimension should be considered. Microfluidic systems in continuous flow represent a promising method to control the size, shape, and size distribution of synthesized nanoparticles.

We present a method that integrates the standard imaging tools for locating and detecting unlabeled nanoparticles (NPs) with computational tools for partitioning cell volumes and NPs counting within specified regions to evaluate their internal traffic. The method uses enhanced dark field CytoViva optical system and combines 3D reconstructions of double fluorescently labeled cells with hyperspectral images. The method allows the partitioning of each cell image into four regions: nucleus, cytoplasm, and two neighboring shells, as well as investigations across thin layers adjacent to the plasma membrane.

Introduction: In recent years, a new form of health has emerged, namely philosophical health. This novel concept is part of the philosophical counseling movement and relies on the philosophical method called the SMILE-PH interview, which draws heavily from continental philosophy, including phenomenology. Reflecting on the link between health and philosophy brings us to an ancient healthcare tradition that actively relies on philosophy: Chinese healthcare and its founding wuxing, or five phases ontology.
