Despite its widespread impact on quality of life, GSM often remains underdiagnosed and without effective treatment. This study assessed the long-term efficacy of fractional CO laser treatment in alleviating GSM symptoms in perimenopausal women.

Comparison of a Scheimpflug Camera and Optical Coherence Tomography in Evaluating Keratoconic Eyes Post Keratoplasty.

The aim of this retrospective study was to compare corneal parameters and compliance using a Pentacam HR-Scheimpflug (Pentacam HR) and a swept-source OCT Casia (Casia) in keratoconus (KC) patients post penetrating keratoplasty (PKP) and KC patients without PKP, as well as a control group. Pachymetry measurements were also analyzed using a spectral domain OCT Solix (OCT Solix), Pentacam HR, and Casia. The study included 71 patients (136 keratoconic eyes; group A), 86 eyes with KC post-PKP (group B), 50 eyes with KC without PKP (group C), and 52 control participants (104 eyes).

Hypertension in chronic kidney disease patients is very common. The definition of resistant hypertension in the general population is as follows: uncontrolled blood pressure (BP) on three or more hypotensive agents in adequate doses, or when patients are on four or more hypotensive agent categories irrespective of the BP control, with diuretics included in the therapy. However, these resistant hypertension definitions do not apply to the setting of end-stage kidney disease.

Exploring Maternal Challenges: A Pilot Study of Pain, Fatigue, and Anxiety in Newborn Care Within Rooming-in Settings.

In the rooming-in system, mothers and their healthy newborns stay together for 24 h a day; however, many women in the early postpartum period often find it challenging to balance their recovery from childbirth with the demands of caring for their newborns. This study aims to investigate the need for postpartum women to entrust their newborns to medical staff for care, and the relationship of this need with perceived pain, fatigue, and anxiety. The study uses the Need to Entrust a Newborn under the Care of the Staff (NEN) scale and the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) to assess participants' levels of pain, fatigue and anxiety.

The objective of this study was to assess the course of rehabilitation of patients hospitalized in the cardiac rehabilitation unit after surgery for acute Stanford type A aortic dissection, extending beyond the ascending aorta, and comparing these findings with those for patients who, after the same type of surgery, had no remaining dissection. The aim was to develop an optimal cardiac rehabilitation model for this patient population, given the lack of clear guidelines. Additionally, the study aimed to evaluate their one-year survival.

The Role of Modern Radiological Procedures in Diagnosing Blunt Liver Injuries Manifested by Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding.

Posttraumatic upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) is a very rare consequence of blunt liver trauma. It can be quite a diagnostic challenge for clinicians, as it can clinically manifest many weeks after the trauma or be scantily symptomatic. The following article would like to provide an analysis of clinical cases of 13 patients following blunt liver injuries, the main symptoms of which was bleeding into the gastrointestinal tract through the biliary tree.

Eight Weeks of Resistance Training Is Not a Sufficient Stimulus to Improve Body Composition in Post-COVID-19 Elderly Adults.

: This study sought to assess how body mass (BM) and body composition in post-COVID-19 elderly adults were affected by 8 weeks of resistance training. An additional goal was to determine the agreement between Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) and Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) in elderly people. : Participants were randomly assigned to an intervention Group, which engaged in 8 weeks of resistance training, and a Control Group, which was advised to maintain their usual activity levels.

Effects of Aging on Orbicularis Oculi Muscle Strength and Ultrastructure in Dermatochalasis: A Pilot Study.

Age-related changes to the orbicularis oculi muscle include impaired eyelid function, such as lagophthalmos, alterations in tear film dynamics, and aesthetic changes like wrinkles, festoons, and the descent of soft tissue. To date, the structural and functional changes that would comprehensively increase our understanding of orbicularis aging have not been analyzed. This study aims to investigate functional outcomes using surface electromyography and correlate them with ultrastructural changes in orbicularis during aging.

Severe Microbial Keratitis in Virgin and Transplanted Cornea-Probability of Visual Acuity Improvement.

To evaluate visual acuity improvement and identify contributing factors in patients with severe keratitis affecting both virgin and transplanted corneas, treated at a hospital. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 497 patients with unilateral corneal ulcers treated at a tertiary referral center between 2008 and 2023. Data included distance (BCVA) and near best-corrected visual acuity at initial presentation and at discharge, treatments before hospital admission, demographic details, risk factors, clinical signs and symptoms, ancillary test results, and management strategies.

Evaluating Anesthesia Guidance for Rescue Analgesia in Awake Patients Undergoing Carotid Endarterectomy with Cervical Plexus Blocks: Preliminary Findings from a Randomized Controlled Trial.

Does Ankyloglossia Surgery Promote Normal Facial Development? A Systematic Review.

Ankyloglossia is a congenital, abnormally short, thickened, or tight lingual frenulum that restricts tongue mobility, which may impair the development of the lower face morphology, namely the occlusion and skeleton. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether and how the lingual frenotomy benefits the occlusion and lower face skeleton development. The authors, independently and in duplication, performed searches of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Medline, Web of Science, and Embase, introducing the following keywords: tongue tie, ankyloglossia, and short lingual frenum/frenulum, combined with malocclusion, lower face skeleton, and hyoid bone.

Long-Term Results of Kidney Transplantation in Patients Aged 60 Years and Older.

The results of kidney transplantation (KTx) in elderly patients are deteriorated by more frequent use of organs procured from older or extended criteria donors (ECDs). To eliminate the influence of donor factors on the transplantation results, the pair analysis method was applied. The study aimed to assess the survival, during long-term follow-up after transplantation, of recipients and transplanted kidneys, graft function, and factors influencing survival in recipients aged 60 years and older (≥60) compared to recipients aged less than 60 years (<60) who received a kidney from the same brain death donor (DBD).
