Saudi J Biol Sci

May 2022

Research Center for Advanced Materials Science (RCAMS), King Khalid University, P.O. Box 9004, Abha 61413, Saudi Arabia.

(CGMMV), a well-known , infects cucurbits across the globe. To determine its current status, molecular characterization, genetic recombination, gene flow and selection pressure, 10 districts from Punjab province of Pakistan were surveyed and a total of 2561 cucurbits samples were collected during 2019-2020. These samples were subjected to virus-specific double antibody sandwich-enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA) for the detection of CGMMV.

Majority of the mountain dwelling communities living in the Himalayas rely on traditional herbal medicines for primary healthcare needs. Present study was conducted in fairy meadows and allied valleys in District Diamir, Gilgit Baltistan autonomous territory in northern Pakistan. Documentation of traditional medicinal knowledge (TMK) of local communities for the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders was carried out as a component of a wider medico-botanical expedition conducted in the entire base camp of the great Nanga Parbat peak during 2016-19.

Pheasants are declining everywhere in the world and therefore updated information about their population and habitats are important for conservation and management. The present study was conducted in the Palas Valley, District Kohistan, Pakistan in late spring (May and June) 2020 and early spring (March and April) 2021 to assess the population and anthropogenic stress. The major focus was on three sympatric pheasant species, including Western Horned Tragopan (Tragopan melanocephalus), Himalayan Monal (Lophophorus impejanus), and Koklass Pheasant (Pucrasia macrolopha).

Genetic improvement of peanut ( L.) genotypes by developing short duration hybrids.

Saudi J Biol Sci

April 2022

Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Taif University, Taif 21944, Saudi Arabia.

Peanut, the only cash crop of rainfed areas of Pakistan, is facing immense challenges due to global warming. Climatic factors particularly the temperature fluctuations and rain pattern shift significantly impact the production and yield of peanut and unavailability of resilient varieties exacerbate this impact. To deal with the cropping pattern change and yield losses, due to climate vagaries, a study was conducted to develop early maturing hybrids using line into tester mating design.

Background: Onion is an economically important vegetable cultivated worldwide on a large scale. Liberal exchange of germplasm and frequent selection caused narrow genetic diversity in most crops, including onion. Thus, it is essential to estimate and understand genetic diversity before launching of any breeding program.

Olive oil extraction produces a great volume of olive mill wastewater (OMW), which is considered a serious ecological challenge. In this study, we have designed and tested a trickling filter consisting of seven different layers of natural material, including (coarse gravel, fine gravel, lime (Ca (OH)), sand (SiO), carbon char, sponge/mesh), to treat OMW. The filter process involved physical separation, filtration, coagulation and adsorption with the removal of COD (69.

Genome wide study of cysteine rich receptor like proteins in Gossypium sp.

Sci Rep

March 2022

Department of Biology, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1300 University Blvd., Birmingham, AL, 35294, USA.

Cysteine-rich receptor-like-kinases (CRKs), a transmembrane subfamily of receptor-like kinase, play crucial roles in plant adaptation. As such cotton is the major source of fiber for the textile industry, but environmental stresses are limiting its growth and production. Here, we have performed a deep computational analysis of CRKs in five Gossypium species, including G.

  • The study investigates the protective effects of methanol extracts from plants (PJM and PHM) on rat kidneys after exposure to a nephrotoxin called CCl, which induces oxidative stress and DNA damage.
  • Results showed that CCl caused significant declines in antioxidant enzyme levels and increased harmful biochemical markers in the rats, while co-administration of PJM and PHM helped restore these levels and improve kidney health.
  • The findings suggest that PJM and PHM may have therapeutic potential for treating oxidative stress-related kidney disorders and could be beneficial in cases of kidney trauma.
