Genomic analysis of wolves from Pakistan clarifies boundaries among three divergent wolf lineages.

J Hered

July 2024

Mammalian Ecology and Conservation Unit, Veterinary Genetics Laboratory, University of California, Davis, Davis, CA, United States.

Article Synopsis
  • The Holarctic lineage of gray wolves is the most studied and widespread, especially in North America and Europe, while less is known about the Tibetan and Indian wolf lineages in southern Asia.
  • Researchers conducted mitochondrial and genome-wide sequencing of wolves from Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan to investigate the contact zones between these lineages.
  • Their findings revealed significant interaction between the Holarctic and Indian wolves in Pakistan, and emphasized the conservation importance of Pakistani wolf populations, particularly those in endangered regions like Sindh and Southern Punjab.

(RS) is a pathogenic fungus that affects maize ( L.) plants and causes banded leaf and sheath blight (BLSB) with severe consequences leading to significant economic losses. Contrarily, rhizobacteria produce numerous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that help in devising the environment-friendly mechanism for promoting plant growth and stress alleviation without having physical contact with plants.

The study aimed to analyze the impact of calcium butyrate supplementation in calf starter on growth performance indices associated with early rumen development to decrease the volume of milk or milk replacer feeding and enhance early starter intake in Holstein calves. For this purpose, twelve Holstein calves were randomly assigned into three treatments (n = 4/treatment); a control without coated calcium butyrate, T1, and T2 treatments supplemented with coated calcium butyrate 3 g and 6 g per day/head, respectively. Body weight was measured at days 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, and 56 of the trial, and the average daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio were determined.

Exploring adequate CO elevation for optimum tomato growth and yield under protected cultivation.

J Plant Physiol

October 2023

Research Center of Fluid Machinery Engineering and Technology, Jiangsu University, Zhenjiang, 212013, China.

The adequate elevation of CO concentrations (e [CO]) could not be assessed by constrained analysis of comparative experimental study for optimum plant growth and yield with improved fruit quality owing to the lack of conjunctive investigation of plant parametric responses. Instead, the principal component analysis (PCA) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) assessed and quantified the parametric plant responses to identify the adequate level of e [CO] for optimum plant growth and yield. In this study, tomato plants were grown under an ambient CO (a [CO], 500 μmol mol) and three e [CO] (700, 850 and 1000 μmol mol): named EC, EC and EC, respectively, in autumn-winter (AW) 2020 and spring summer (SS) 2021 growing seasons to investigate and evaluate the plant parametric responses under e [CO].
