Background And Aims: Combining probiotics and prebiotics in synbiotics may present a synergistic approach to improve type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, further evidence is required to establish the comparative efficacy of synbiotics versus probiotics. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis MN-Gup (MN-Gup) and a synbiotic mixture of MN-Gup and galactooligosaccharide (MN-Gup-GOS) on glycemic control in T2DM patients and explore possible mechanisms.

Zn-based biodegradable metals (BMs) are regarded as revolutionary biomaterials for bone implants. However, their clinical application is limited by insufficient mechanical properties, delayed degradation, and overdose-induced Zn toxicity. Herein, innovative multi-material additive manufacturing (MMAM) is deployed to construct a Zn/titanium (Ti) hetero-structured composite.

Abstract: We aim to investigate the optimal timing for surgical interventions to maximize patient benefit.
Background: The guidelines recommending a minimum deferral of six months for non-cardiac surgeries following drug-eluting stent percutaneous coronary intervention (DES-PCI) do not adequately address the requirements for individuals undergoing gastrointestinal cancer surgery (GCS).
Methods: The study encompassed 2,501 patients treated from January 2017 to December 2021, all of whom underwent GCS within one year after DES-PCI.

The skin, as the body's largest organ, plays a crucial role in protecting against mechanical forces and infections, maintaining fluid balance, and regulating body temperature. Therefore, skin wounds can significantly threaten human health and cause a heavy economic burden on society. Recently, bioelectric fields and electrical stimulation (ES) have been recognized as a promising pathway for modulating tissue engineering and regeneration of wounded skin.

Treating brain tumors requires a nuanced understanding of the brain, a vital and delicate organ. Location, size, tumor type, and surrounding tissue health are crucial in developing treatment plans. This review comprehensively summarizes various treatment options that are available or could be potentially available for brain tumors, including physical therapies (radiotherapy, ablation therapy, photodynamic therapy, tumor-treating field therapy, and cold atmospheric plasma therapy) and non-physical therapies (surgical resection, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy).

Unlabelled: Long-term training induces neural plasticity in the visual cognitive processing cortex of table tennis athletes, who perform cognitive processing in a resource-conserving manner. However, further discussion is needed to determine whether the spatial processing advantage of table tennis players manifests in the early stage of sensory input or the late stage of processing. This study aims to explore the processing styles and neural activity characteristics of table tennis players during spatial cognitive processing.

The intracellular bacterium (Fn) mediates tumorigenesis and progression in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the origin of intratumoral Fn and the role of Fn-infected immunocytes in the tumor microenvironment remain unclear. Here, we observed that Fn-infected neutrophils/macrophages (PMNs/MΦs), especially PMNs, accumulate in tumor tissues and fecal Fn abundance correlates positively with an abundance of blood PD-L1 PMNs in CRC patients.

Background: Cigarette smoking is a leading cause of preventable death worldwide, with its associated diseases and conditions. Emerging evidence suggests that cigarette smoking contributes to a range of pathological metabolic injuries, including diabetes and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The impact of gut microbiota on metabolic health and diseases has been observed, but the causality remains uncertain.

Metabolic reprogramming occurs in cardiomyopathy and heart failure contributing to progression of the disease. Activation of cardiac Hippo pathway signaling has been implicated in mediating mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic reprogramming in cardiomyopathy, albeit influence of Hippo pathway on lipid profile is unclear. Using a dual-omics approach, we determined alterations of cardiac lipids in a mouse model of cardiomyopathy due to enhanced Hippo signaling and explored molecular mechanisms.

Background: Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play a significant role in the development of acute pancreatitis (AP). The actin-binding protein LASP1 regulates proteins associated with the cytoskeleton, yet its precise involvement in NETs and AP remains to be elucidated.
Methods: To investigate the role of LASP1 in NETs and AP, several bioinformatics methods, such as weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), differential analysis, and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, were utilized to screen for feature genes based on the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) dataset.

Deciphering the origins of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) is critical for a deeper understanding of innate immunity. Here, we present a protocol for assessing ILC potential of human embryonic resources. We describe steps for identifying lymphoid progenitors in human embryonic tissues, then culturing mature ILCs in vitro, and identifying characteristics and functions of different cultured ILC subsets using cellular indexing of transcriptomes and epitopes (CITE)-sequencing and flow cytometry analysis.

Accumulating evidences have indicated that cancer stem cells (CSCs) can initiate tumor progression and cause recurrence after therapy. However, specific markers of gastric CSCs (GCSCs) from different origins have not been comprehensively revealed. Here, we further detected whether cell populations labelled with CD44 and Lgr5, well-recognized stem markers for gastric cancer (GC), can better emphasize cancer initiation, therapeutic resistance and recurrence.

Excessive formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) has been shown to exacerbate inflammatory injury and organ damage in patients with sepsis. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) abnormally expressed in immune cells of sepsis patients, and play an important role in the pathogenesis of dysregulated immune responses. However, the functions of circRNAs in NET formation during sepsis remain unknown.

Objective: The senescence of smooth muscle is one of the independent risk factors in atherosclerosis progression in which the vascular inflammation plays an important role on vascular dysfunction. This study is designed to explore the novel vascular aging biomarkers and screen the potential molecular interventional targets through bioinformatic analysis.
Results: Transcriptional analysis was conducted based on the GSE16487 open access database, which included 15 human vascular tissue samples from two groups: young group (≤ 60 years old, n = 8) and aged group (≥ 75 years old, n = 7).
