In this study, we conducted post-mortem examinations of golden jackals (Canis aureus) and red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) from the northern region of the Republic of Srpska (Bosnia and Herzegovina) to detect the presence of Angiostrongylus vasorum. An epidemiological survey was conducted in the densest golden jackal population in the country. Over two time intervals, we examined a total of 30 jackals and 16 foxes.

Porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV) infection is widespread worldwide and has a high prevalence in swine herds, especially in countries with intensive swine production. PCMV is zoonotic and can impact xenotransplants. It is the third swine virus known to be zoonotic, following swine influenza virus (influenza A) and hepatitis E virus genotype 3 (HEVgt3 or HEV-3).

Influenza A virus continues to represent a growing problem affecting mainly birds but with an increasing number of mammal transmission events reported each year. Nevertheless, molecular characterization and phylogenetic analysis of influenza A viruses originating from all confirmed cases have not been systematically performed in all parts of the world. In this study, we investigated a sample originating from a mute swan that died in November 2021 in the northern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina with RT-qPCR and whole genome sequencing using ONT MinION.

Background: is an important human and animal pathogen that can cause a wide range of infections due to numerous virulence factors.
Aims: The aim of this study was to compare biofilm formation ability with different virulence factors such as bacterial motility, genes encoding biofilm associated proteins, and Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) among human and canine isolates of
Methods: A total of 60 human (30 methicillin sensitive (MSSA) and 30 methicillin resistant . (MRSA)) and 17 canine (all MSSA) isolates of were tested for the capability of biofilm production, motility assay, and presence of genes encoding virulence factors: (encoding intercellular adhesion), (encoding biofilm-associated protein), (encoding fibronectin-binding protein A), (encoding collagen-binding protein), and (encoding PVL).

This study is a retrospective analysis of social, economic, political, and cultural events on the annual incidence of trichinellosis in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). It highlights the importance of specific regulations, which have been incorporated into developing preventive protection against this human disease for the last 61 years since it has been monitored by law. In the period, 1961-2021, 3828 people became infected.

This case study describes the presence of a deer ked (, Linnaeus, 1758) in the Balkan chamois () from the area of the National Park "Sutjeska", Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H). This is the first finding of this ectoparasite in this animal species in B&H, which indicates that deer ked has significant adaptive abilities to different animal hosts.

Background: The Mediterranean Basin is historically a hotspot for trade, transport, and migration. As a result, countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea share common public health threats. Among them are vector-borne diseases, and in particular, mosquito-borne viral diseases are prime candidates as (re)emerging diseases and are likely to spread across the area.

From 1929 to 1941, the Vrbas Banate was one of nine provinces of the Kingdom Yugoslavia, and according to historical data, the poorest one, without well-organized and sustainable agriculture production. Naturalistic production and poor animal health control in the Vrbas Banate were the most important risk factors for infectious disease spreading. Anthrax was very prevalent infectious disease in domestic animals and humans in that period, but some data on this disease remain scarce.
