Introduction: Radical perineal prostatectomy was the first surgery described for prostatic carcinoma (Young, 1904) but it lost its eminent status after Walsh's description in 1982 of anatomic radical retropubic prostatectomy followed by the enthusiasm in laparoscopy and now robotics. Thyrotoxic hypokalaemic periodic palsy (THPP) is a well-recognised but under-diagnosed complication of hyperthyroidism and is commonly seen in Asian males. There is considerable evidence that family psycho-education combined with pharmacological intervention for patients with schizophrenia increases family understanding of the illness, reduces the familial burden of care, and improves patient outcomes. However, no studies have determined whether the burden of care is greater for those families with more than one ill member (multiplex) than for families with a single-affected individual (simplex), and whether psycho-educational programs should be adapted to meet the specific needs of multiplex families. Fahr's disease, also known as idiopathic basal ganglia calcification, is a rare clinical entity characterised by bilaterally symmetric calcification of the basal ganglia. Most of the patients present with extrapyramidal symptoms, but the natural history, progression and treatment still remain unknown. We report a case of tubercular meningitis diagnosed by a cerebrospinal fluid examination with incidental findings of an extensive basal ganglia calcification on CT.
