Accurate segregation of retinal blood vessels network plays a crucial role in clinical assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation process. Owing to the presence of acquisition and instrumentation anomalies, precise tracking of vessels network is challenging. For this, a new fundus image segmentation framework is proposed by combining deep neural networks, and hidden Markov model.

Background: External ureteral catheter (EUC) and double-J stent are both commonly used to drain upper urinary tract in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). We compared the outcomes of using EUC versus double-J stent in performing PCNL in patients with renal stones in our settings in order to identify a better technique for the management of renal stones in terms of postoperative stent-related symptoms.
Methods: This randomized controlled trial was conducted at the Department of Urology, PAEC General Hospital, Islamabad, from January 2020 to December 2020.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with mineral and bone disorder (MBD), which results in significant morbidity and mortality. To determine the spectrum of CKD- MBD in the Pakistani population, we performed a retrospective review of the medical records of 63 native Pakistani CKD stage-5 patients at our unit at the initiation of hemodialysis from March 2009 to September 2011. The cohort included 28 males and 35 females, with an age range of 18- 87 years (mean age 51 years).

Phaeohyphomycosis is a heterogeneous group of opportunistic infections caused by dematiaceous molds, which are distributed worldwide as plant pathogens but rarely cause human diseases. However, due to the growing populations of immunocompromised patients, these fungi are frequently recognized as important human pathogens. We are reporting this very rare, unique case for the first time from Islamabad, Pakistan, describing the association of visceral Phaeohyphomycosis caused by the opportunistic fungus Alternaria alternata, affecting the left kidney, with the immunocompromised state in a young incidentally detected patient with insulin-dependent type I diabetes.

We present the prediction of malaria infection in human plasma using Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectra of malaria-infected samples are compared with those of healthy and dengue virus infected ones for disease recognition. Raman spectra were acquired using a laser at 532 nm as an excitation source and 10 distinct spectral signatures that statistically differentiated malaria from healthy and dengue-infected cases were found.

(99m)Tc labeled N-N-ethylene-L, L-dicysteine (EC) was introduced in form of multiple-step kit as an alternate renal imaging radiopharmaceutical for commonly used (99m)Tc-MAG3. We developed a single component lyophilized kit of EC ready to be labeled with (99m)Tc. We present the optimization of the components of our formulation, its evaluation in animal models, normal human volunteers and patients of various renal diseases, in comparison with (99m)Tc-MAG3.

Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is an extremely rare breast malignancy having highly aggressive clinicopathological behaviour and dismal prognosis. A 75 years old man presented with a painless lump on right side of his chest along with two additional lumps in the ipsilateral axillary and inguinal areas. Microscopic evaluation and immunohistochemistry of trucut tissue biopsies of the lumps and that of mastectomy specimen revealed a triple-negative phenotype of poorlydifferentiated metaplastic breast carcinoma with metastatic deposits to the axillary and inguinal lymph nodes.
