Background And Objective: Utilizing AI to mine tumor microenvironment information in whole slide images (WSIs) for glioma molecular subtype and prognosis prediction is significant for treatment. Existing weakly-supervised learning frameworks based on multi-instance learning have potential in WSIs analysis, but the large number of patches from WSIs challenges the effective extraction of key local patch and neighboring patch microenvironment info. Therefore, this paper aims to develop an automatic neural network that effectively extracts tumor microenvironment information from WSIs to predict molecular typing and prognosis of glioma.

Introduction: During revision surgery for the management of patients presenting with long-bone upper extremity nonunion, it is crucial to rule out fracture-related infection (FRI). This is especially true if there are clinical signs suggestive of FRI, or if there is a history of prior FRI, open wound fracture, or surgery. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of frozen section analysis (FSA) in providing real-time diagnosis of FRI in patients with upper-limb long-bone nonunion undergoing revision surgery.

Introduction And Importance: Elastofibroma dorsi is a rare benign soft tissue lesion primarily located in the subscapular region. This distinctive lesion, with its unique radiological and histological features, poses diagnostic challenges due to its subtle presentation and overlap with other conditions.
Case Presentation: A 48-year-old man, manual laborer with an unremarkable medical history presented with a progressively enlarging mass below the right scapula over two years.

Introduction: Retinal capillary hemangioma (RCH) is a benign vascular hamartoma that can occur sporadically or as a manifestation of Von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease. If left untreated, it results in adverse ocular complications depending on its location and eventual visual loss.
Case Presentation: We present a 50-year-old man who was a known case of VHL with history of left eye vision loss in the left eye at the age of 30 years.

Prognostic awareness (PA) has an important role in promoting informed care planning in cancer patients. However, studies in the literature showed discordant results regarding the impact of PA on psychological and quality of life outcomes. The present systematic review aimed to investigate the associations between PA with anxiety, depression, and quality of life in oncological patients according to early, advanced, and terminal cancer stages.

Introduction: Currently, few prospective guidelines exist for the surveillance of children with low-risk neuroblastic tumors (LRNBTs), including ganglioneuroma or ganglioneuroblastoma intermixed. This study aims to describe our institutional approach to LRNBT surveillance following surgical resection or nonoperative management. We hypothesize that length of surveillance can be reduced due to low recurrence risk.

Background: This study investigates the effectiveness of a three-dimensional reconstruction mathematical model (3D-IPR) for preoperative planning in locally advanced colon cancer (LACC) with threatened surgical margins. The objective was to evaluate the utility of a 3D-IPR surgical planner tool in cases of LACC with threatened surgical margins. Additionally, the study aims to compare the diagnostic accuracy of the 3D-IPR model against conventional CT scans in determining the infiltration of neighboring structures.

Background: The ovarian cancer (OC) preclinical detectable phase (PCDP), defined as the interval during which cancer is detectable prior to clinical diagnosis, remains poorly characterised. We report exploratory analyses from the United Kingdom Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS).
Methods: In UKCTOCS between Apr-2001 and Sep-2005, 101,314 postmenopausal women were randomised to no screening (NS) and 50,625 to annual multimodal screening (MMS) (until Dec-2011) using serum CA-125 interpreted by the Risk of Ovarian Cancer Algorithm (ROCA).

Background: Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) represents a highly aggressive neuroendocrine tumour with a dismal prognosis. Currently, the identification of a specific tumour antigen that can facilitate immune-based therapies for SCLC remains elusive.
Methods: We employed liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) to analyse cancer/testis antigens (CTAs) in SCLC cell lines and human tumour specimens.

Personal care products (PCPs), such as sunscreens, are usually found in various aquatic ecosystems at low concentrations (ng l to µg l). However, there is limited information regarding their effects on marine bivalves. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the sublethal effects of environmental concentrations (1 and 100 µg l) of benzophenone-3 (BP-3) in Crassostrea gigas oysters after 1 and 7 days of exposure.

The growing population of older adults emphasizes the need to develop interventions that prevent or delay some of the cognitive decline that accompanies aging. In particular, as memory impairment is the foremost cognitive deficit affecting older adults, it is vital to develop interventions that improve memory function. This study addressed the problem of false memories in aging by training older adults to use details of past events during memory retrieval to distinguish targets from related lures.

Methods Data of two cohorts were retrospectively collected from consecutive patients who underwent primary pancreatic resection from January 2015 to December 2017. We used tumor specimens to screen out the most suitable markers for the spatial distribution analysis for CAFs subpopulations.

Background Aims: Patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) meeting UNOS-downstaging (DS) criteria have excellent post-liver transplantation (LT) outcomes. Studies on HCC beyond UNOS-DS criteria ("All-comers" (AC)) have been limited by small sample size and short follow-up time, prompting this analysis.
Approach Results: 326 patients meeting UNOS-DS and 190 meeting AC criteria from 9 LT centers across 5 UNOS regions were enrolled from 2015 to 2023 and prospectively followed.

Background Aims: The role of adjuvant transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following curative resection remains controversial. We aimed to determine the effectiveness of postoperative adjuvant TACE in HCC patients.
Approach Results: In this randomized phase 3 trial, histologically confirmed HCC patients (AJCC TNM stage I and II) were randomly assigned (1:1) to adjuvant TACE or observation groups.

Background And Aims: Alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) is one of the leading causes of severe liver disease with limited pharmacological treatments for alcohol-related steatohepatitis (ASH). CD44, a glycoprotein mainly expressed in immune cells, has been implicated in multiple inflammatory diseases but has never been studied in the ALD context. We therefore studied its contribution to ASH development in mice and its expression in ALD patients.

Purpose: Perfusion modeling presents significant opportunities for imaging biomarker development in breast cancer but has historically been held back by the need for data beyond the clinical standard of care (SoC) and uncertainty in the interpretability of results. We aimed to design a perfusion model applicable to breast cancer SoC dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) series with results stable to low temporal resolution imaging, comparable with published results using full-resolution DCE-MRI, and correlative with orthogonal imaging modalities indicative of biophysical markers.
Methods: Subsampled high-temporal-resolution DCE-MRI series were run through our perfusion model and resulting fits were compared for consistency.

As the operative management of acute, chest wall, skeletal injury escalates throughout the world, it has become commonplace for patients with posttraumatic conditions to present with clinical reconstructive challenges as well. In addition, it is becoming clear that rib nonunions are not rare, likely more than 5% of rib fractures. No subspecialty is better equipped to address such painful conditions than orthopaedic surgery.
