Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is a leading cause of general surgery inpatient admissions. SBO is most commonly associated with postoperative adhesions; however, neoplastic SBO is an important differential. Here, we present a case of neoplastic SBO secondary to leiomyosarcoma in a patient with known mature B cell lymphoma.

Excipient lung disease (ELD) is a rare cause of pulmonary hypertension that occurs due to the intravenous injection of crushed tablets. We present the case of a healthcare professional in her late 30s who presented with a fever in the setting of a bacteraemia. During her hospital admission, she established a pattern of transient hypoxia and hypotension, with resolution without targeted management or clear cause identified.

This case emphasises the difficulties in diagnosing a patient with brisk active small bowel bleeding and the differential diagnostic process of identifying tumour types preoperatively using imaging information. This case also underscores the importance of the surgical approach in different scenarios. Despite advancements in small bowel imaging, identifying the source and causes of small bowel bleeding remains challenging, particularly in life-threatening situations.

This case report provides details of the first documented case of pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) with coexistent focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) in a young boy. The child's initial presentation was an afebrile, generalised tonic-clonic seizure associated with postictal drowsiness. During his first episode, the physical examination revealed a short, obese child with a micropenis and left cryptorchidism.

Background: Pregnancy-associated venous thromboembolism (PA-VTE) seriously threatens maternal health. We aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics, risk factors, treatments, and pregnancy outcomes to better prevent and treat PA-VTE.
Methods: PA-VTE patients were selected from 171,898 women who were registered in the Department of Obstetrics of Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital from January 2014 to August 2023 and delivered to calculate the incidence.

Background: V617F-mutated myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) exhibit abnormal proliferation of bone marrow progenitors and increased risk of thrombosis, specifically in splanchnic veins (SVT). The contribution of the endothelium to the development of the prothrombotic phenotype was explored.
Material And Methods: Plasma and serum samples from V617F MPN patients with (n=26) or without (n=7) thrombotic debut and different treatments, were obtained (n=33).

Background: Many oral and maxillofacial surgery patients are young, healthy adults who are opioid-naïve. Over-prescribing opioids increases the risk of subsequent misuse and diversion.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to measure and compare opioid prescriptions to opioid naïve and nonnaïve patients by oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Massachusetts from 2012 to 2022.

This study aimed to develop patches containing quercetin-loaded microcapsules and to evaluate their in vitro and in vivo safety and efficacy in preclinical surveys. A set of in vitro experiments evidenced the virucidal activity of quercetin against the HSV-1-KOS (sensitive to acyclovir) and HSV-1-AR (resistant to acyclovir) strains, with improved outcomes upon the first. The patches presented a homogeneous aspect, were easily handled, had a suitable bioadhesion, and possessed mechanical properties of soft and weak material, besides a pH compatible with human skin.

Glycosylation can be used to improve the emulsifying properties of protein by covalently binding with sugar. In this study, we prepared coconut protein (CP) -polygalacturonic acid (PA) conjugates by dry-heat method, studied the effect of PA with different molecular weight on the structure and functionality of CP, and characterized the interfacical behavior of CP at the oil-water interface to establish the relationship between interfacial behavior and emulsion stability. The results showed that different molecular weights of PA (28.

The PWWP domain is a conserved motif unique to eukaryotes, playing a critical role in various cellular processes. Proteins containing the PWWP domain are typically found in chromatin, where they bind to DNA and histones in nucleosomes, facilitating chromatin-associated functions. Among these proteins, PWWP-domain containing proteins 2A and 2B (PWWP2A and PWWP2B), identified during the H2A interactome analysis, are DNA methyltransferase-related proteins, that are structurally disordered, except for their PWWP domain.

Obesity due to excessive body fat accumulation remains a global problem. Patients with obesity have high cortisol levels, and its dysregulation is caused by increased 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1) levels. The effects and mechanism of J2H-1702, an 11β-HSD1 inhibitor, on nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) were explored.

Multiparticulate drug delivery systems offer advantages in controlled release, dose flexibility, and personalized medicine. Fusion prilling, a process that produces spherical lipid-based microparticles through vibrating nozzles, is gaining interest in the field. This study aims to explore the use of fusion prilling to encapsulate crystallizable water-in-oil emulsions, enabling the incorporation of hydrophilic active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) within lipid matrices.

Recently, it has been proposed that the loss of DNAJC15 correlates with cisplatin (CDDP)-resistance onset in ovarian cancer (OC), suggesting this protein as a potential prognostic factor during OC progression. However, the molecular mechanisms through which DNAJC15 contributes to CDDP response remains poorly investigated.

Background And Objectives: Despite screening procedures, a few blood donors confirm positive for transfusion-transmissible infections and are deferred. Effective notification of laboratory results is essential to ensure that donors are advised of confirmed results and to seek medical care. Here we report results from post-notification interviews of Canadian Blood Services donors.

Understanding the impacts of diversity on pathogen transmission is essential for public health and biological conservation. However, how the outcome and mechanisms of the diversity-disease relationship vary across biological scales in natural systems remains elusive. In addition, although the role of host functional traits has long been established in disease ecology, its integration into the diversity-disease relationship largely falls behind.

Cystic breast masses are a common entity encountered by breast radiologists. The imaging features of benign and malignant cystic masses may overlap, causing confusion and miscategorization with the potential to produce diagnostic delay and harm. This article provides a review of key differentiating imaging features that help guide appropriate mass characterization and treatment.

Embryonal tumors with multilayered rosettes (ETMRs) are rare and highly aggressive embryonal central nervous system tumors that predominantly affect infants younger than 3 years old. These tumors typically have a C19MC alteration (ETMR, C19MC-altered) or, more rarely, a DICER1 mutation (ETMR, DICER1-mutated). Post-chemotherapeutic or post-chemoradiotherapeutic histological changes of C19MC-altered ETMRs, such as maturation or loss of histological characteristics of ETMR have been described in several reports.
