The Financial Impact of Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes on Patients in the United States in 2022.

Objective: To determine the financial impact of Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) on patients in the United States by examining the medical expenses incurred by patients.

Patients And Methods: We used a convenience sample approach and disseminated a self-reported survey questionnaire to individuals with EDS via patient advocacy organizations and support groups across the country, social media, and health professionals from April 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. The survey focused on the out-of-pocket medical expenses incurred by patients.

Macrophage Activation Syndrome in a Patient with Systemic Lupus Erythematous Triggered by Tuberculous Meningitis.

Background: Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), is characterized by systemic uncontrolled inflammation resulting from immune dysregulation secondary to various triggers, including genetics, infections, autoimmune diseases, and malignancies. Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is an immune dysregulation phenomenon, in which an underlying rheumatological disease is present. We report a rare, interesting case of a middle-aged female, with a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) flare complicated by macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), in which tuberculous meningitis (TBM) was the identified trigger.

Anaemia of Inflammation Preceding Dyspnoea, Dry Cough and Weight Loss in Primary Pulmonary Lymphoma.

Introduction: There is little information in the literature on the early, sub-clinical stage and laboratory test results in patients with primary mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma of the lung, a rare disease.

Case Description: In a 75-year-old man, an open lung biopsy-confirmed diagnosis of primary pulmonary lymphoma was preceded by almost six months of anaemia of inflammatory disease and monocytosis without any pulmonary symptoms. When he developed a dry cough, increasing dyspnoea and marked weight loss, these changes deepened and became associated with reactive thrombocytosis; markedly increased ferritin and C-reactive protein (positive acute-phase reactants), as well as reduced albumin and transferrin (negative acute-phase reactants).

In such instances, positron emission tomography/computed tomography scan can assess individuals with suspected PNS enabling the detection of hidden malignancies.

Disseminated Multiple Organ Lymphoma Presented as Vulvar Lesion Diagnosed by [18F]FDG PET/CT.

We would like to present a 49-year-old female patient who was presented with a vulva lesion and palpable inguinal lymph nodes who were diagnosed with disseminated multiorgan involvement of high grade diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography computerized tomography imaging showed multiple cervical, axillary, and abdominal lymph nodes, pulmonary nodules as well as gross hypermetabolic vulvar lesion.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly affected the physical activity (PA) levels and dietary habits of individuals, particularly children and adolescents in Saudi Arabia, owing to widespread closures and social distancing measures, including school closures.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the impact of distance learning (DL) on PA and dietary habits among public middle school girls during the pandemic. The Arab Teens Lifestyle Questionnaire (ATLS) was used to assess habitual PA, sedentary behavior, and dietary habits.

Background: Second-generation antipsychotic medications (SGAs) are often used by primary care physicians (PCPs) to treat multiple psychiatric diagnoses. Currently, there are no published evidence-based recommendations addressing SGAs and cardiotoxicity that are directed toward PCPs.

Low-Dose Computed Tomography Scan Features Are Associated With Annual Risk of Hospitalization.

Background: The objective of this study was to investigate whether lung cancer screening low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) can be used to identify features associated with increased risk of hospitalization during the subsequent year.

Methods: Patients who underwent lung cancer screening between 2015 and 2020 with at least 1-year follow-up were identified. Patient charts were examined and LDCT scans were analyzed using body segmentation software to identify characteristics potentially associated with frailty and injury.

4.5-mm "Ready-Made" Conduit for Primary Chest Closure After Norwood Procedure.

The Norwood procedure with the right ventricle-to-pulmonary artery (RV-PA) conduit has been the standard procedure for hypoplastic left heart syndrome. However, postoperative management can be challenging related to finding the correct balance between pulmonary and systemic blood flow. One can use hemostatic clips on the RV-PA conduit to temporarily restrict pulmonary blood flow.

Cystic Atypical Carcinoid in the Thymus Causing Mediastinal Bleeding Followed by Hemothorax.

We report a case of cystic atypical carcinoid in the thymus that caused mediastinal bleeding. Atypical thymic carcinoid is a relatively rare disease, and few cases of cystic atypical carcinoid have been reported. There are some reports of anterior mediastinal bleeding caused by thymic tumors or cysts; however, reports on atypical carcinoid-associated bleeding are unavailable.

Synovial sarcoma is a rare malignant mesenchymal neoplasm primarily affecting adolescents and young adults, and it typically arises from deep soft tissues near large joints. Although commonly found in extremities, it can occur in various anatomic locations. We present a rare case of a 29-year-old man with primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma manifesting as a cystic mass masquerading as a lung hydatid cyst.

Cellular Schwannoma Arising After the Resection of an Anterior Mediastinal Leiomyosarcoma.

Cellular schwannoma is a schwannoma subtype with histopathologic features resembling those of malignant tumors. We report a case of a cellular schwannoma arising at the resection margin of an anterior mediastinal leiomyosarcoma. An 88-year-old woman who had undergone resection of an anterior mediastinal leiomyosarcoma 2 years previously developed a mediastinal tumor at the resection margin, raising suspicion of leiomyosarcoma recurrence.

Chordomas are rare, slowly growing, aggressive primary bone tumors that originate from notochord remnants and occur almost exclusively in the axial skeleton. Here, we describe a patient with an enlarging right-sided neck mass that was later diagnosed as a sternoclavicular joint chondroid chordoma. En bloc surgical resection was accomplished with negative margins.

Benign Lung Adenoma Mimicking an Adenocarcinoma With Gene Fusion.

Bronchiolar adenoma is a benign neoplastic process thought to be derived from the bronchiolar epithelium. Particularly in small biopsy specimens, this entity can mimic lung cancer with important implications for management. We report the case of a 33-year-old man with a right upper lobe lung nodule, with initial biopsy identifying an adenocarcinoma with gene fusion.
