Peptide YY (PYY) is an anorectic brain-gut pancreatic peptide that helps in feeding regulation by reducing appetite and is well characterized in mammals. The role of PYY in relation to brain is least studied in mammals as well as in lower vertebrates including fish, however high expression was evident in male reproductive tissue. In this regard, this study attempts to evaluate the significance of PYY in the brain of common carp, Cyprinus carpio.

In this work, we have described a polyoxometalate (POM)-based inexpensive and easily synthesizable compound [Co(HO)][{K(HO)}VO]·2HO (), which exhibits electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution in its aqueous solution without its decomposition (or electrodeposition), acting as a rare homogeneous electrocatalyst. Even though the compound [Co(HO)][{K(HO)}VO]·2HO () (soluble in water) shows electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity because of the Coulombic attraction, including H-bonding interactions, between the [Co(HO)] cationic species and [{K(HO)}VO]anionic species, the individual homogeneous solutions of [VO] (source: Na[VO]·18HO) and [Co(HO)] (source: CoCl·6HO) do not show any electrocatalytic HER activity. We have thus established that the synergy of [VO] with [Co(HO)] in crystal matrix as well as in the aqueous solution of makes the compound a stable and highly active electrocatalyst for homogeneous HER in an aqueous solution.

A mechanochemical synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted benzimidazoles from donor-acceptor cyclopropyl ketones and 1,2-diaminoarenes under metal-free and solventless conditions is reported. The reaction does not require inert conditions and is promoted by a stoichiometric amount of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoroisopropanol. This cascade reaction involves ring-opening, cyclization, and retro-Mannich reaction of cyclopropyl ketones with aryl 1,2-diamines.

A mechanochemistry approach is developed for regioselective synthesis of functionalized dihydropyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines by milling propargylic alcohols and 6-aminouracils with HFIP/p-TsOH. In the case of tert-propargyl alcohols, this [3+3] cascade annulation proceeded through allenylation of uracil followed by a 6-endo trig cyclization. With sec-propargyl alcohols, the reaction furnished the propargylation of uracil.

We have demonstrated a green aqueous synthesis of rod-shaped MoO material, [MoO{K(HO)}(CHCOO)]·HO (2) intercalating potassium-aqua-complex acetate into its lamellar space, simply by ion-exchange of Co(II)-aqua-complex in compound [MoO(CHCOO){Co(HO)}]·2HO (1) by {K(HO)} in an aqueous solution of 1 and KCl. Compound 2 acts as a potential storage system of alkali metal ions.

A practically efficient, copper-catalyzed approach for the synthesis of functionally embellished indeno-naphthofurans is developed from 1-(1-inden-3-yl)naphthalen-2-ols. This intramolecular cycloetherification proceeds via C(sp)-H oxygenation (C-H bond breaking and C-O bond forming), which enables the atom-economical synthesis of poly fused furans in high yields with large substrate diversity in the open air.

We report here an atom-economical, -diastereoselective synthesis of naphtho-fused furo[2,3-]furans along with naphthofurans at room temperature using readily available 2-naphthols and 2-oxo aldehydes using an alkaline earth catalyst [Ca(OTf)]. 2-Oxo aldehydes having both aryl and alkyl substitutions reacted well. A good number of arenols responded to give fused furans, but selected arenols gave only furofurans.

The uranyl ion (UO), a uranium nuclear waste, is one of the serious contaminants in our ecosystem because of its radioactivity, relevant human activities, and highly mobile and complex nature of living cells. In this article, we have reported the synthesis and structural characterization of an uranyl cation-incorporated polyoxometalate (POM) compound, K[{K(HO)}{UO}(α-PWO)]·13HO (), in which the uranyl cations are complexed with an in situ generated [α-PWO] cluster. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) analysis of compound reveals that the uranyl-potassium complex cationic species, [{K(HO)}{UO}], is sandwiched by two [α-PWO] clusters resulting in a Dawson type of POM.

Sporulene, a pentacyclic triterpenoid, was discovered in Bacillus subtilis and is associated with bacterial endospores. However, the study was not further extended, leaving a trail of questions. One such question is what diversity of sporulenes exists among spore-forming members? Considering the sporulene biosynthesis pathway as a fundamental tool to survey the distribution of this molecule, a genome mining study was conducted.

A unified strategy for the construction of bicyclic furans and pyrroles is developed from -propargyl alcohols and α-acyl cyclic ketones using an alkaline earth catalyst under solvent-free conditions. The reaction proceeds via the formation of a β-keto allene intermediate, which upon treatment with a -amine underwent thermodynamic enol formation and a subsequent annulation to form bicyclic furans. Interestingly, the same allene forms bicyclic pyrrole with primary amines.

The members of the genus are key players in the removal of petroleum hydrocarbons from polluted marine environments. More than half of the species were described in the last decade using 16S rRNA gene phylogeny and genomic-based metrics. However, the 16S rRNA gene identity (<94 %) between some members of the genus suggested their imprecise taxonomic status.

Herein, we report an efficient and practical approach for synthesizing diaryl(het) ketones from R-CO-CHR-Ar through a simultaneous oxidative cleavage of C-C and C-H bonds using KOBu. This method enables synthesizing a variety of unsymmetrical and symmetrical (hetero)aryl ketones in excellent yields, which are otherwise difficult to make. Besides, we synthesized natural products using this method.

The current genus Rhodopirellula consists of marine bacteria which belong to the family Pirellulaceae of the phylum Planctomycetota. Members of the genus Rhodopirellula are aerobic, mesophiles and chemoheterotrophs. The here conducted analysis built on 16S rRNA gene sequence and multi-locus sequence analysis based phylogenomic trees suggested that the genus is subdivided into four clades.

Tyrosine hydroxylase (Th) is an allosteric rate-limiting enzyme in catecholamine (CA) biosynthesis. The CAs, dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE), and epinephrine are important neurotransmitters wherein DA contributes a key role in the central nervous system of vertebrates. The present study evaluated DA and Th's significance in DA-ergic activity and neurodegeneration upon 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) exposure in catfish.
