The aim of this work was to study the, so far, unexplored possibility that non-genetic inheritance of animal behavioral characteristics could depend on the state of the parents at the time of conception. In this study, we measured the levels of motor and exploratory activity in rats at the ages of 2 and 5 months. Male and female rats were mated at the age of 5 months.

It has previously been shown that, in mice, chronic social defeat stress in daily agonistic interactions leads to a depression-like state similar to that in depressive patients. With this model, it has become obvious that it is possible to study peripheral markers of the depression-like state in an experiment. This paper was aimed at searching for protein markers in the blood plasma of depressed mice in the chronic social conflict model, which allows for us to obtain male mice with repeated experiences of defeat.

Researchers use different approaches to analyze changes in skin conductance. At the same time, individual differences observed in both the initial values of skin conductance and response to stimuli do not allow comparing the responses of different subjects to the same impact. An individualized approach to the assessment of psycho-emotional stress has been developed using the real-time skin conductance index during continuous performance of a task with different levels of complexity.

Administration of caffeine in the prenatal and early postnatal periods led to the development of anxiolytic, stimulating, and analgesic effects. Administration of aminoguanidine attenuated the anxiolytic and stimulating effects and potentiated the analgesic effect of perinatal administration of caffeine.

In the cerebellum, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex of mature male Wistar rats with trained spatial navigational skill in the Morris water maze, the transcriptional activity the NAPA gene that regulates the transport and secretion of synaptic vesicles, release of neurotransmitters, and protein degradation was determined by real-time PCR. Animals subjected to forced swimming in a time-matched regime (active control) and naïve rats were used as the comparison groups. Suppression of NAPA gene activity was found in the hippocampus and cerebellum of the active control group, while navigation skill training led to a significant increase in gene expression in all brain structures under study.

In 20 healthy volunteers (10 men and 10 women, age 18-19 years), synchronous measurements of the microcirculation of the skin of the symmetrical temporal areas of the head were carried out by laser Doppler flowmetry. The coefficients of asymmetry of regression relationships between perfusion changes in each side and initial perfusion values in both the same and opposite sides, the distribution function of perfusion asymmetry coefficients, and variability of perfusion in the studied areas were analyzed.

The levels of norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, and their metabolites were determined in the cerebellum and frontal cortex. In the observed age range, a decrease in locomotion speed, impairment of gait initiation and stability, and long-term memory deficit were revealed.

Anterograde amnesia was characterized by impaired formation of long-term memory during repeated learning. Administration of a DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) inhibitor to amnestic animals resulted in accelerated formation of long-term memory during 1 day of repetitive training vs 3 days during initial training.

Aging is associated with impairments in learning, memory, and cognitive flexibility, as well as a gradual decline in hippocampal neurogenesis. We investigated the performance of 6-and 14-month-old mice (considered mature adult and late middle age, respectively) in learning and memory tasks based on the Morris water maze (MWM) and determined their levels of preceding and current neurogenesis. While both age groups successfully performed in the spatial version of MWM (sMWM), the older mice were less efficient compared to the younger mice when presented with modified versions of the MWM that required a reassessment of the previously acquired experience.

We studied the ability of technologically processed antibodies to the brain-specific S100 protein (drug Prospekta) to reduce the brain lesion area, neurological disorders, and mortality in a rat model of hemorrhagic stroke. Technologically processed antibodies to S100 exerted a positive effect on all these parameters (brain lesion area, survival rate, neurological status according to the Menzies scale, and proportion of contralateral turns). This allows us to recommend further research into the spectrum of pharmacological activity and the mechanism of action of technologically processed antibodies to S100 in order to expand the indications for their use after the necessary clinical trials.

True genetically encoded monomeric fluorescent timers (tFTs) change their fluorescent color as a result of the complete transition of the blue form into the red form over time. View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe studied the effect of prenatal stress (dams were forced to swim in cold water (10°C; 5 min) from day 10 to 16 of gestation) on the behavioral parameters of the offspring in an elevated plus maze on days 21, 30, and 60 of life (suckling, infantile, and juvenile ages, respectively). Females at the suckling age demonstrated suppressed orientation and exploratory activity and increased anxiety, which returned to normal by the infantile and juvenile periods. Prenatally stressed males in juvenile age were characterized by reduced anxiety (assessed by the time spent in the closed and open arms of the plus maze).
