1T-TiSe_{2} is one of the most studied charge density wave (CDW) systems, not only because of its peculiar properties related to the CDW transition, but also due to its status as a promising candidate of exciton insulator signaled by the proposed plasmon softening at the CDW wave vector. Using high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, we report a systematic study of the temperature-dependent plasmon behaviors of 1T-TiSe_{2}. We unambiguously resolve the plasmon from phonon modes, revealing the existence of Landau damping to the plasmon at finite momentums, which does not support the plasmon softening picture for exciton condensation.

We have determined conditions when a pair of coupled waveguides, a common element for integrated room-temperature photonics, can act as a qubit based on a system with a double-well potential. Moreover, we have used slow-varying amplitude approximation (SVA) for the "classical" wave equation to study the propagation of electromagnetic beams in a couple of dielectric waveguides both analytically and numerically. As a part of an extension of the optical-mechanical analogy, we have considered examples of "quantum operations" on the electromagnetic wave state in a pair of waveguides.

In the stoichiometric iron-based superconductor EuRbFeAs, superconductivity coexists with a long-range magnetic ordering in Eu layers. Using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), we observed an atomic structure of as-grown EuRbFeAs crystals. HRTEM shows that crystals have two-dimensional intrinsic nanoinclusions established to be the RbFeAs (122) phase with a volume fraction of ~5.

An increase in the efficiency for a terbium-based OLED was achieved by introducing gold nanoparticles into the PEDOT:PSS hole injection layer and was mainly due to the improvement in carrier injection and the reduction of the excited-state lifetime. The introduction of plasmon-resonant gold nanoparticles resulted in a 50% increase in the Tb(czb)TDZP luminance, which reached 480 cd m and is the highest result for OLEDs based on aromatic carboxylates.

Gas-liquid interfaces are reaching a particular interest in biomedicine. Microbubbles, ultrasound contrast agents of clinical routine, gained increasing attention as theranostic platforms due to the preserved acoustic response, drug conjugation capabilities, and applicability in biological barrier opening. A combination of microbubbles and photodynamic therapy agents can enhance the photodynamic effect, yet the evaluation of agent conjugation on microbubble stabilization and photodynamic effect is needed.

High-intensity (∼1 TW/cm2 and higher) region formed in the propagation of ∼60 GW, 90 fs Ti:Sapphire laser pulse on a ∼100 m path in air spans for several tens of meters and includes a plasma filament and a postfilament light channel. The intensity in this extended region is high enough to generate an infrared supercontinuum wing and to initiate laser-induced discharge in the gap between the electrodes. In the experiment and simulations, we delay the high-intensity region along the propagation direction by inserting metal-wire meshes with square cells at the laser system output.

We have explored the effect of low-temperature barrier discharge plasma treatment in oxygen, nitrogen, and argon on modification of the physicochemical properties of polylactic acid (PLA)-based scaffolds. The cellular-mediated immune response to the interaction of macrophages of three donors with the modified surface of PLA-based scaffolds was also investigated. Carbonization of the PLA surface accompanied by a carbon atomic concentration increase is shown to occur following plasma treatment.

This Letter reports the observation of WWW production and a measurement of its cross section using 139 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data recorded at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with two same-sign leptons (electrons or muons) and at least two jets, as well as events with three charged leptons, are selected. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events.

With ever-growing numbers of metal-organic framework (MOF) materials being reported, new computational approaches are required for a quantitative understanding of structure-property correlations in MOFs. Here, we show how structural coarse-graining and embedding ("unsupervised learning") schemes can together give new insights into the geometric diversity of MOF structures. Based on a curated data set of 1262 reported experimental structures, we automatically generate coarse-grained and rescaled representations which we couple to a kernel-based similarity metric and to widely used embedding schemes.

A tetravalent-substituted cobalt ludwigite CoGeBO has been synthesized using the flux method. The compound undergoes two magnetic transitions: a long-range antiferromagnetic transition at = 84 K and a metamagnetic one at = 36 K. The sample-oriented magnetization measurements revealed a fully compensated magnetic moment along the - and -axes and an uncompensated one along the -axis leading to high uniaxial anisotropy.

In this paper, we report on the fabrication of a new material SiO@MIL-101(Cr), which synthesis is based on the metal-organic framework MIL-101(Cr) and the silica support Chromosorb W. The obtained surface-layer sorbent was analyzed by powder X-ray diffraction analysis, Raman spectroscopy and porosity measurement. The retention regularities and the thermodynamic characteristics of the sorption of volatile organic compounds from the gas phase were studied for the packed column with the surface-layer sorbent SiO@MIL-101(Cr).

Recent discoveries in nonlinear optical properties of nanoparticle colloids make actual the challenge to lower the energy threshold of phase conjugation and move it into the domain of shorter pulse widths. A novel effect of the stimulated Rayleigh-Mie scattering (SRMS) in two-photon absorbing nanocolloids is considered as a promising answer to this challenge. We report the results of experimental and theoretical study of the two-photon-assisted SRMS in Ag and ZnO nanocolloids in the nanosecond-to-picosecond pulse width domain.

Multiparticle azimuthal correlations of prompt D^{0} mesons are measured in Pb-Pb collisions at a nucleon-nucleon center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.02 TeV. For the first time, a four-particle cumulant method is used to extract the second Fourier coefficient of the azimuthal distribution (v_{2}) of D^{0} mesons as a function of event centrality and the D^{0} transverse momentum.

A search for resonances decaying into a W boson and a radion, where the radion decays into two W bosons, is presented. The data analyzed correspond to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb^{-1} recorded in proton-proton collisions with the CMS detector at sqrt[s]=13 TeV. One isolated charged lepton is required, together with missing transverse momentum and one or two massive large-radius jets, containing the decay products of either two or one W bosons, respectively.

Polyhydrides are a novel class of superconducting materials with extremely high critical parameters, which is very promising for sensor applications. On the other hand, a complete experimental study of the best so far known superconductor, lanthanum superhydride LaH , encounters a serious complication because of the large upper critical magnetic field H (0), exceeding 120-160 T. It is found that partial replacement of La atoms by magnetic Nd atoms results in significant suppression of superconductivity in LaH : each at% of Nd causes a decrease in T by 10-11 K, helping to control the critical parameters of this compound.

Microbubbles are routinely used ultrasound contrast agents in the clinic. While a soft protein shell is commercially preferable for imaging purposes, a rigid polymer shell demonstrates prolonged agent stability. Hence, combining polymers and proteins in one shell composition can advance microbubble properties.
