Background: () strains resistant to isoniazid and rifampin (multidrug-resistant tuberculosis [MDR-TB]) are increasingly reported worldwide, requiring renewed focus on the nuances of drug resistance. Patients with low-level moxifloxacin resistance may benefit from higher doses, but limited clinical data on this strategy are available.

Methods: We conducted a 5-year observational cohort study of MDR-TB patients at a tertiary care center in India.

Skull-base chordomas (CD) and chondrosarcomas (CS) are locally-invasive tumors, have similar clinical presentations, while differing in their nature of growth and outcomes. In this study, we compare the long-term outcomes of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery (GKRS) as an adjunctive treatment modality for residual skull-base CD and CS. A retrospective analysis of clinico-radiological, pathological, radiotherapeutic and outcome data was carried out in patients who underwent adjunctive GKRS for residual skull-base CD and CS at P D Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, between 1997 and 2020.

Schwannoma occurring in the psoas muscle is rare. We report a 49-year-old male who presented to the orthopaedic oncosurgery team with persistent lower back pain radiating to the right lower limb following a fall on the back a few months ago. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a well-defined lesion in the right psoas muscle at the level of third lumbar vertebra (L3).

Background: Bisphosphonates are proven to be effective in obviating the need for surgical intervention in osteonecrosis of the femoral head. However, the late onset of pain relief hampers compliance. We present the clinical and radiographic outcome of a combination therapy compared with alendronate-only therapy for the management of osteonecrosis of the femoral head.

Ticagrelor is a potent, oral P2Y12 inhibitor used as a part of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) in acute coronary syndromes (ACS). New evidence has emerged for its use in ACS, which may be crucial for the Indian context. This brought together nearly 150 experts in ACS management across the country who reviewed the current evidence and discussed the same through a series of 10 meetings on an online platform.

Unlabelled: The key to intralesional surgical treatment of giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is extended curettage. As GCTB is locally aggressive with a high propensity for local recurrence, a primary factor of surgical treatment is the ability to achieve local tumor clearance. GCTB commonly affects the epimetaphyseal region of the bone, which may compromise the integrity of the articular surface.

Cancer or COVID-19? A Review of Recommendations for COVID-19 Vaccination in Cancer Patients.

Curr Treat Options Oncol

September 2021

Department of Surgical Oncology, Tata Memorial Hospital, 93, Ground Floor, Main Building, Mumbai, 400012, Maharashtra, India.

While emergency use is authorized for numerous COVID-19 vaccines and the high-risk population including cancer patients or those with immunosuppression due to disease or therapy is prioritized, data on this group's specific safety and efficacy of these vaccines remains limited. Safety data from clinical trials and population data may be extrapolated, and these vaccines may be used for cancer patients. However, concerns of efficacy due to the variable immune response in patients with active cancers undergoing active therapy and cancer survivors with chronic immunosuppression remain.

Head Department of Surgery, Head of Department of Neurosurgery & Gamma Knife Radiosurgery, P D Hinduja National Hospital, Mumbai 400016, India. Electronic address:

Majority of the published literature on the impact of microsurgery over quality-of-life (QOL) in vestibular schwannoma (VS) patients is retrospective in nature, with variable results, and there has been very little contribution from South-Asia. The authors designed this study to investigate the role of microsurgery in QOL alterations in VS patients, and to compare obtained QOL scores with that of control population. Between February 2017 and March 2018, a prospective/retrospective study was done at our institute.

Altered redox status may contribute to aberrant folliculogenesis and poor reproductive outcomes in women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

J Assist Reprod Genet

October 2021

Department of Molecular Endocrinology, National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, Indian Council of Medical Research, J.M. Street, Parel, Mumbai, Maharashtra, 400012, India.

Background: Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) are often infertile and opt for artificial reproductive techniques (ART) to conceive. Disrupted pro-/antioxidant balance in oocyte microenvironment may contribute towards sub-optimal oocyte/embryo quality and poor ART outcome in them.

Methods: Activities/levels of redox markers and their transcript expression were investigated in follicular fluid and granulosa cells respectively, in women with PCOS (n = 71) and controls (n = 50) undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
