Objective: White matter hyperintensities (WMH) are associated with Major Depressive Episodes (MDE) in individuals aged 65 and over. WMH are prevalent in adults under 65, yet the association between their volume and MDE in this population remains uncertain. This study aimed to assess the association between WMH volume and MDE and its severity in patients < 65.

Treatment of attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients with a substance use disorder (SUD) and comorbid ADHD (SUD +ADHD) may have positive effects on the outcome of both conditions, but controversy exists regarding the preferred ADHD treatment in these patients. Little is known about the treatments that are provided for these patients in routine addiction care practice and the factors that are associated with treatment provision. To describe the treatments provided in everyday clinical practice and to explore factors associated with ADHD treatment provision in patients with SUD +ADHD.

French Society for Biological Psychiatry and Neuropsychopharmacology, STEP Section (Stimulation Transcrânienne En Psychiatrie), Saint-Germain-en-Laye, France.

Over the past three decades, non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques have gained worldwide attention and demonstrated therapeutic potential in various medical fields, particularly psychiatry. The emergence of these novel techniques has led to an increased need for robust training programs to provide practitioners, whether clinicians or scientists, with the necessary skills and knowledge. In response, a comprehensive training curriculum for NIBS in psychiatry has been developed in France.

Non Communicable Diseases and Trauma Division, Santé publique France, Paris, France; Department of Psychiatry, AP-HP, Louis Mourier Hospital, Paris, France; and INSERM Team 1 - UMR1266, Institute of Psychiatry and Neurosciences, Université de Paris, Paris, France.

Background: Assessing the risk of subsequent self-harm after hospitalisation for COVID-19 is critical for mental health care planning during and after the pandemic.

Aims: This study aims to compare the risk of admission to hospital for self-harm within 12 months following a COVID-19 hospitalisation during the first half of 2020, with the risk following hospitalisations for other reasons.

Method: Using the French administrative healthcare database, logistic regression models were employed to analyse data from patients admitted to hospitals in metropolitan France between January and June 2020.

Background: Persons with schizophrenia are excluded from psychedelic-assisted therapy due to concerns about the risk of triggering or worsening psychosis. However, there is limited meta-analytic data on the risk of psychedelic-induced psychosis in individuals with pre-existing psychotic disorders.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review, meta-analysis, and overview of reviews to assess the incidence of psychedelic-induced psychosis and symptom exacerbation in schizophrenia.

Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on global mental health. Health care students, both as young people and regarding their student condition, were a more at-risk population. During the first and the third waves, two national surveys already found high levels of psychological distress (21 to 83% of severe psychological distress).

Background: Quality of life is decreased in bipolar disorders (BD) and contributes to poor prognosis. However, little is known about the causal pathways that may affect it. This study aimed to explore health-related QoL (HRQoL) in BD and investigate its relationship with cognition and psychosocial functioning.

Purpose Of Review: This review aims at reporting the current evidence of the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on grief in children.

Recent Findings: Evidence from the scientific literature shows that the severity of grief in children is impacted by numerous risk factors which can lead to prolonged grief disorder (PGD). Among these risk factors are the unpredictability of the death, the lack of understanding about what is happening by the child, the global insecurity raised by the context of the pandemic or again the impossibility for the child to find comfort with his peers due to the lock-down.

Background: Despite the growing interest in the prevalence and consequences of loneliness, the way it is measured still raises a number of questions. In particular, few studies have directly compared the psychometric properties of very short measures of loneliness to standard measures.

Methods: We conducted a large epidemiological study of midwife students ( = 1742) and performed a head-to-head comparison of the psychometric properties of the standard (20 items) and short version (3 items) of the UCLA Loneliness Scales (UCLA-LS).

Stanford Neuromodulation Therapy (SNT), has recently shown rapid efficacy in difficult to treat (DTT) depression. We conducted an exploratory analysis of individual symptom improvements during treatment, correlated with fMRI, to investigate this rapid improvement in 23 DTT participants from an SNT RCT (12 active, 11 sham). Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale item 7 (Lassitude) was the earliest to show improvements between active and sham, as early as treatment day 2.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is the leading cause of disability worldwide. Genetic factors influence the effect of its main treatment option, antidepressant drugs (ATD). The GRIK4 rs1954787(T>C) genetic polymorphism was associated with response following 1-3 months of ATD treatment in some studies, but not others.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether pre-existing medical conditions increase the risk of developing major depressive episodes (MDE) after hospitalization for COVID-19.
  • It analyzed data from 650 patients six months post-hospitalization, focusing on conditions like high blood pressure, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and others.
  • Results showed that type 2 diabetes significantly raised the risk of new-onset MDE, prompting recommendations for screening in these patients after COVID-19 recovery.

Background: Attrition continues to be a major hurdle for addiction treatment. Through the prism of the attachment theory, this phenomenon can be understood as a manifestation of the patient's insecure attachment style, needing a highly-responsive care delivery. We developed an electronic health mobile application, co-designed with patients, aimed at helping healthcare teams respond to their patients' needs, and fostering adherence to care.

Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Bipolar disorder (BD) is a complex mental health condition, and researchers aimed to identify a neurodevelopmental phenotype (NDP) that contributes to its development and impacts clinical outcomes.
  • By analyzing data from over 4,400 BD patients, they established nine specific clinical features that characterize this NDP, which are linked to poorer prognosis and treatment responses.
  • The findings suggest that patients with a higher NDP load may have overlapping genetic factors with ADHD, indicating a potential shared biological basis for these disorders.
