Measurement properties of instruments to assess insight in psychosis: A systematic review protocol.

Introduction: Insight in psychosis, defined as a patient's awareness and judgment of their mental illness, is a complex and evolving concept. Historically, the absence of insight was considered a defining characteristic of psychosis, but recent decades have seen the development of structured tools for its assessment. This systematic review aims to critically appraise the measurement properties of instruments used to assess insight in individuals with schizophrenia spectrum, bridging the gap between theoretical conceptualization and clinical practice.

Weak acid and pepsin reflux induce laryngopharyngeal mucosal barrier injury: A rabbit-model-based study.

Objective: Using rabbit models, this study simulated the laryngopharynx's response to the synergistic effects of various acidic reflux environments and pepsin to investigate the response mechanism underlying weak acid reflux and pepsin in the mucosal barrier injury of laryngopharyngeal reflux.

Methods: The rabbits were divided into six groups, and the original larynx was recorded for each group. During the study period, rabbits were sprayed with different doses of acid and pepsin solutions and monitored for hypopharyngeal mucosal transient impedance before and after modeling.

Effect of bar jump height on kinetics and kinematics of take-off in agility dogs.

Sport-related injuries have been reported to occur in around one-third of agility dogs. Higher bar height in competitions has been shown to increase odds of an injury. This study evaluated the effect of bar height on the kinetics and kinematics at take-off to a bar jump.

Factors associated with malnutrition inflammation score among hemodialysis patients: A cross-sectional investigation in tertiary care hospital, Palestine.

Malnutrition is a prevalent complication in hemodialysis patients and is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with malnutrition among hemodialysis patients including patient's general characteristics, functional status, and dietary intake. The impact of The Quality and Safety Education (QSEN) program on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of junior nurses.

Background: The quality and safety education for nurses (QSEN) competency program represents a valuable initiative in nursing practice and education, equipping nurses with the essential knowledge, attitude, and skills (KAS) required to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

Purpose: This study aims to determine the impact of QSEN competency on the KAS of nurses in Palestine.

Method: A quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test design with two groups was used utilizing a questionnaire to collect data from 164 Junior nurses in two governmental hospitals within the period of 25th, January to the 10th February 2024.

White matter lesions and DTI metrics related to various types of dysfunction in cerebral palsy: A meta-analysis and systematic review.

Background: Assessing various types of dysfunction in cerebral palsy is a key factor in the treatment and rehabilitation of patients. The objective of this study was to use meta-analysis and systematic review to identify the specific white matter lesions and DTI metrics strongly associated with various types of dysfunction in cerebral palsy.

Methods: We conducted a literature search of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases to identify trials published that had evaluated the correlation between DTI metrics in sensorimotor pathways and function scores in cerebral palsy.

The relationship between vitamin A and myopia: A population-based study.

Purpose: We sought to evaluate the relationship between blood vitamin A levels and myopia in adults aged ≥20 years in Korea.

Methods: We collected data of 15,899 participants aged ≥20 years from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Participants underwent refraction tests to identify myopia and high myopia, and their blood pressure and obesity levels were measured.

Systematic review on the compliance of WHO guidelines in the management of patients with advanced HIV disease in Africa: The case of cryptococcal antigen screening.

Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) screening for people presenting with advanced HIV disease (AHD) and for those with positive CrAg without evidence of meningitis to initiate preemptive antifungal medication. Data on the implementation of WHO recommendations regarding CrAg screening is limited. We estimated pooled prevalence of CrAg screening uptake, cryptococcal antigenemia, lumbar puncture, cryptococcal meningitis and initiation of preemptive antifungal medication from available eligible published studies conducted in Africa.

Physical measures of physical functioning as prognostic factors in predicting outcomes for neck and thoracic pain: Protocol for a systematic review.

Background: Spinal pain is prevalent and burdensome worldwide. A large proportion of patients with neck and thoracic pain experience chronic symptoms, which can significantly impact their physical functioning. Therefore, it is important to understand factors predicting outcome to inform effective examination and treatment.

Relationship between floating toe score and performance in track and field athletes.

This study explored the relationship between floating toes and athletic performance among collegiate track and field athletes. A total of 422 athletes (sprinters, jumpers, and distance runners) and 136 controls participated in this study. Plantar surface images were captured using a specially designed foot scanner during standing to calculate the floating toe score.

The status of China's international division of labour from Marx's theory of international value.

Based on Marx's theory of international value, this paper analyzes the carrier of unequal exchange and the path of international transfer of surplus value, constructs an international division of labour status index by comprehensively observing the organic composition of capital in the export and import sectors, and tries to accurately grasp the characteristics of the current international division of labour pattern coexisting between horizontal products and vertical products. At the same time, based on the data of all available HS92 six-digit code categories in various countries in the world from 1993 to 2016, the level of international division of labour in China is empirically analysed. The results show that: (1) there is no breakthrough in the situation of China's low status of international division of labour; (2) the high capital-organic composition of the import sector is the main reason for the low status of international division of labour; (3) the continuous decline in the absolute value of captured surplus is a global phenomenon; (4) WTO accession has not significantly improved the status of international division of labour.

The impact of a commercial lower extremity exoskeleton on metabolic load, perceived exertion, and physiological response to a challenging military relevant task: A randomized cross-over design pilot study.

Purpose: To assess physiological metrics during the use of a commercially available bilateral active ankle exoskeleton during a challenging military-relevant task and if use of the exoskeleton during this task influences: metabolic load, physiological measures or rate of perceived exertion.

Methods: Nine healthy volunteers (5M, 4F) completed this randomized cross-over design trial, with a baseline visit and two randomized test sessions (with/without the exoskeleton). Variables included impact on time to exhaustion during walking on a treadmill at varying speeds and gradients (0-15%) at 26.

Trace elements in fish species from the Punjnad headworks: Bioaccumulation and human health risk assessment.

Aquatic toxicology, as a result of industrial and agrieqcultural effluences, has become a global concern impacting not only the well-being of aquatic organisms but human health as well. The current study evaluated the impact of four toxic trace elements (TTEs) Cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and nickel (Ni) in three organs (liver, gills, and muscles) of five fish species viz, Rita rita, Sperata sarwari, Wallago attu, Mastacembelus armatus, and Cirrhinus mrigala collected from right and left banks of Punjnad headworks during winter, spring, and summer. We investigated the accumulation (mg/kg) of these TTEs in fish in addition to the human health risk assessment.

The effects of preoperative glenohumeral osteoarthritis on rotator cuff repair: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Purpose: This meta-analysis was carried out to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of rotator cuff repair surgery in treating rotator cuff tears in individuals with mild glenohumeral osteoarthritis (GHOA).

Methods: A computer-based search was conducted across multiple databases including PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library using the keywords "Shoulder Joints", "Osteoarthrosis", and "rotator cuff". Only studies focusing on patients with GHOA who underwent rotator cuff repair were considered for inclusion.

Police tactical group (PTG) officers respond to the most demanding and high-risk police situations. As such, PTG personnel require exceptional physical fitness, and selection for employment often evaluates fitness both directly and indirectly. While heart rate (HR) is often used to measure physical effort, heart rate variability (HRV) may be a valuable tool for measuring stress holistically.

Here, we investigated the functions and regulations of solute carrier family 16 member 3 (SLC16A3), which has been reported to be a biomarker of poor prognosis in iCCA.

Physical activity and metabolic syndrome in primary care patients in Spain.

Purpose: To determine the relationship between self-reported physical activity and the components of premorbid metabolic syndrome in patients treated in primary care according to sex.

Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study conducted on a sample of 2,359 patients without cardiovascular disease or diabetes, included in the cohort of the IBERICAN study. Using ANOVA models and adjusting for age, economic status, employment situation, level of education, adherence to a Mediterranean diet, tobacco use and alcohol consumption, we estimated the association of the variables blood pressure, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, blood glucose and waist circumference with the self-reported level of physical activity (sedentary, moderate, high, very high).

Prevalence and associated factors of postpartum anemia after cesarean delivery in public hospitals of Awi zone, North West Ethiopia, 2023; a cross-sectional study.

Background: Anemia is a serious global public health problem, especially in developing nations. Anemia during pregnancy is appropriately recognized, whereas postpartum anemia especially after cesarean delivery in Ethiopia has received very little attention. Due to this it leads to poor quality of life, palpitations, an increase in maternal infections, exhaustion, diminished cognitive function and postpartum depression.

Transitions in intensive care: Investigating critical slowing down post extubation.

Complex biological systems undergo sudden transitions in their state, which are often preceded by a critical slowing down of dynamics. This results in longer recovery times as systems approach transitions, quantified as an increase in measures such as the autocorrelation and variance. In this study, we analysed paediatric patients in intensive care for whom mechanical ventilation was discontinued through removal of the endotracheal tube (extubation).

Validation of the brief physical activity assessment tool: Comparison of telephone and in-person administration.

We examined the reliability and validity of the Brief Physical Activity Assessment Tool (BPAAT) when administered by telephone interview compared to in-person administration. We analyzed data from the Epi-asthma study. Adult participants registered in the participating Portuguese primary health care centres (PCC) completed the BPAAT via telephone.

Understanding emotional and health indicators underlying the burnout risk of healthcare workers.

Burnout of healthcare workers is of increasing concern as workload pressures mount. Burnout is usually conceptualised as resulting from external pressures rather than internal resilience and although is not a diagnosable condition, it is related to help seeking for its psychological sequelae. To understand how staff support services can intervene with staff heading for burnout, it is important to understand what other intrapsychic factors are related to it.
