Importance: Management of maternal cardiac arrest (MCA) requires understanding the unique physiology of pregnancy and modifications to life support. Health care professionals have historically demonstrated inadequate knowledge and skills necessary to treat MCA.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of Obstetric Life Support (OBLS) education on health care professionals' cognitive performance, skills, and self-efficacy in managing MCA.

Background: The question of what brings someone to homelessness and keeps them there has many varied and complex answers. The authors believe the answers lie within the persons experiencing homelessness (PEH).

Methods: This is an interpretive approach study based on convenience sampling of the San Antonio, TX, unsheltered population, utilizing semi-structured interviews from January 2022 through November 2022.

Background And Aims: The ability of plants to track shifting fitness optima is crucial within the context of global change, where increasing environmental extremes may have dramatic consequences for life history, fitness, and ultimately population persistence. However, tracking changing conditions relies on the relationship between genetic and environmental variance, where selection may favour plasticity, the evolution of genetic differences, or both depending on the spatial and temporal scale of environmental heterogeneity.

Purpose: Speech-language pathologists and audiologists are called to serve an increasingly diverse patient population in the United States. This increased diversity highlights the need for clinicians to be educated early in their careers about best practices to serve patients and clients from diverse backgrounds. In this clinical focus article, the authors present the development, implementation, and preliminary perceptions of a culturally responsive clinical experience for speech-language pathology graduate students designed to engage them early in their learning career.

Using georeferenced photo-elicitation projects to understand survivor resources: a method for trauma-informed practice in higher education.

This research examined the use of georeferenced photo-elicitation projects in conducting "assets inventories" of on-campus resources for students who have been the victims of violence. A pilot study was conducted with 27 undergraduate students at a small, Hispanic-serving, Catholic, liberal arts university. Students participated in a photo-elicitation project, submitting geotagged digital photographs of on-campus resources for victims of violence.

Patient characteristics associated with sleep disturbance in breast cancer survivors.

Background: Disturbed sleep is common among breast cancer survivors. Identifying patients at risk for disturbed sleep and its sequelae will aid in improving screening and intervention strategies to improve sleep and cancer-related quality of life (QOL).

Methods: Women with stages I-III breast cancer undergoing neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy (N = 415) reported subjectively assessed sleep quality (PSQI) and actigraphy-assessed wake after sleep onset (AAS-WASO), total sleep time (AAS-TST), and sleep efficiency (AAS-SE), sociodemographic, and clinical characteristics and completed questionnaires assessing physical and mental health QOL at study entry and 3, 6, 12, and 15 months later.

The pandemic of 1918 and the heart disease epidemic in middle-aged men and women in the United States.

Members of birth cohorts who were alive in 1918 and survived the influenza pandemic were likely to have been "primed" for heart disease in later life. We examine the hypothesis that the twentieth-century heart disease epidemic was a cohort effect reflecting the changing susceptibility composition of the population.We estimated heart disease death rates by single years of age for cohorts born in 1860-1949.

A machine learning approach to estimation of phase diagrams for three-component lipid mixtures.

The plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells is commonly believed to contain ordered lipid domains. The interest in understanding the origin of such domains has led to extensive studies on the phase behavior of mixed lipid systems. Three-component phase diagrams, composed of a high melting temperature (Tm) lipid, cholesterol, and a low Tm lipid have been valuable in studying lipid phase behavior.

Not All Nonverbal Tasks Are Equally Nonverbal: Comparing Two Tasks in Bilingual Kindergartners With and Without Developmental Language Disorder.

Purpose This study investigates the interaction of language ability status, cultural experience, and nonverbal cognitive skill performance in Spanish-English bilinguals with typical development (TD) and developmental language disorder (DLD). Method One hundred sixty-nine Spanish-English bilingual kindergartener's scores on the Symbolic Memory and Cube Design subtests from the Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (Bracken & McCallum, 1998) were analyzed by language ability (TD vs. DLD).

Complex Pathways to Transfer: A Qualitative Comparative Analysis of the Transition From Community College to 4-Year University.

Many community college students express a desire to transfer to a 4-year institution, but few achieve that goal. In this article, we examine what conditions lead to successful student transfer and which serve as barriers. Drawing on data from a longitudinal qualitative study of 61 transfer-intending students in Texas and using qualitative comparative analysis, we investigate the student-level conditions and experiences that contribute to successful or unsuccessful transfer to a 4-year institution.

Frequency of mazes in an experimental narrative task in monolingual English and Spanish-English bilingual children.

Mazes such as self-corrections during speech production are observed in all speakers at varying rates. One hypothesis is that mazes result from the challenge of speech planning when speakers experience linguistic uncertainty. The aim of the study was to examine mazes in 4- and 5-year old typically developing English monolingual and Spanish-English bilingual children's narratives when uncertainty was manipulated in narrative context.

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Brief Mindfulness Meditation for Women Undergoing Stereotactic Breast Biopsy.

Purpose: Stereotactic breast biopsy (SBB) is a common, anxiety-producing procedure. Nonpharmacologic methods to manage acute anxiety are needed.

Methods: In this single-blind trial, women were recruited before SBB and randomized in a 2:2:1 ratio to a single session of guided mindfulness-based meditation (GM; n = 30), focused breathing (FB; n = 30), or standard care (SC; n = 16).

Stuttering on function words in bilingual children who stutter: A preliminary study.

Evidence suggests young monolingual children who stutter (CWS) are more disfluent on function than content words, particularly when produced in the initial utterance position. The purpose of the present preliminary study was to investigate whether young bilingual CWS present with this same pattern. The narrative and conversational samples of four bilingual Spanish- and English-speaking CWS were analysed.

Preposition accuracy on a sentence repetition task in school age Spanish-English bilinguals.

Preposition knowledge is important for academic success. The goal of this project was to examine how different variables such as English input and output, Spanish preposition score, mother education level, and age of English exposure (AoEE) may have played a role in children's preposition knowledge in English. 148 Spanish-English children between 7;0 and 9;11 produced prepositions in English and Spanish on a sentence repetition task from an experimental version of the Bilingual English Spanish Assessment Middle Extension (Peña, Bedore, Gutierrez-Clellen, Iglesias & Goldstein, in development).
