Development and validation of a psychometric scale for assessing healthcare professionals' knowledge in radiation protection.

Introduction: Healthcare professionals must sufficiently understand ionising radiation and the associated protection measures to avoid unnecessarily exposing patients and staff to ionising radiation. Hence, a proper safety culture is important to lowering health risks. The development and establishment of an instrument that can indicate healthcare professionals' understanding/knowledge of radiation protection concepts can greatly contribute to a good safety culture.

Psychometric properties of the Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGDT-10) and problematic gaming behavior among Finnish vocational school students.

This study was conducted to investigate the psychometric properties of the Finnish version of the Internet Gaming Disorder Test (IGDT-10), identify the proportion displaying problematic gaming behavior (PGB) among Finnish vocational school students, and characterize the relationships between sociodemographic factors and gaming characteristics predicting PGB in this population. This cross-sectional study involving 773 students (mean age 17.5 years).

Characterization of radiographers' mammography practice in five European countries: a pilot study.

Objectives: This pilot study aimed to characterize and compare radiographers' mammography practice, including quality control and continuous professional development in five European countries.

Methods: Online survey was performed to collect data regarding participants' profile, institution's profile, mammography practice, quality control and continuous professional development. The questionnaire was sent to clinical radiographers working in Estonia, Finland, Norway, Portugal and Switzerland.

Increasing nursing students' knowledge of evidence-based hand-hygiene: A quasi-experimental study.

Aim of study was to evaluate the effects of a multi-component intervention on nursing students' knowledge of evidence-based hand-hygiene. A quasi-experimental design was used. Nursing students (N = 146) from two universities of applied sciences (experimental group n = 107, control group n = 39) completed an instrument based on international clinical guidelines related to hand hygiene that consisted of 17 Likert-scale items.

Characterization of breast imaging education and insights from students, radiographers and teaching staff about its strengths, difficulties and needs.

Introduction: The study aimed to characterize breast imaging education and identify its strengths, difficulties and needs across five European countries according to student, radiographer and teaching staff perspectives.

Methods: An observation grid was used to collect data regarding breast imaging education and three questionnaires targeted to key-participants were developed/applied to collect data on strengths, difficulties and needs. Descriptive statistics and thematic analysis were performed according to the nature of the questions.

Background: Despite regulations, insufficient information is provided to adult patients prior to their radiologic examinations. Information regarding paediatric patients has not been systematically studied.

Problematic Mobile Phone Use (PMPU) has been studied in relation to public health and comprises various behaviours, including dangerous, prohibited, and dependent use. These types of problematic mobile phone behaviours are typically assessed with the short version of the Problematic Mobile Phone Use Questionnaire (PMPUQ⁻SV).

Patient radiation dose and fluoroscopy time during ERCP: a single-center, retrospective study of influencing factors.

Objectives: Recently, both the number and the complexity with associated increased technical difficulty of therapeutic ERCP procedures have significantly increased resulting in longer procedural and fluoroscopy times. During ERCP, the patient is exposed to ionizing radiation and the consequent radiation dose depends on multiple factors. The aim of this study was to identify factors affecting fluoroscopy time and radiation dose in patients undergoing ERCP.

Crawling-induced floor dust resuspension affects the microbiota of the infant breathing zone.

Background: Floor dust is commonly used for microbial determinations in epidemiological studies to estimate early-life indoor microbial exposures. Resuspension of floor dust and its impact on infant microbial exposure is, however, little explored. The aim of our study was to investigate how floor dust resuspension induced by an infant's crawling motion and an adult walking affects infant inhalation exposure to microbes.

Mobile gaming and problematic smartphone use: A comparative study between Belgium and Finland.

Background and aims Gaming applications have become one of the main entertainment features on smartphones, and this could be potentially problematic in terms of dangerous, prohibited, and dependent use among a minority of individuals. A cross-national study was conducted in Belgium and Finland. The aim was to examine the relationship between gaming on smartphones and self-perceived problematic smartphone use via an online survey to ascertain potential predictors.

Challenges in mammography education and training today: The perspectives of radiography teachers/mentors and students in five European countries.

Introduction: This study aims to explore current challenges in mammography education from the perspectives of radiography teachers, mentors and students.

Methods: A qualitative study including two focus groups interviews, with radiography teachers/mentors (n = 5) and student radiographers (n = 5) exploring their perspectives on challenges in mammography education today. The content analysis methodology proposed by Graneheim and Lundman was applied to the interviews.

Problematic gaming behaviour and health-related outcomes: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the interplay between problematic gaming behaviour and health-related outcomes at different developmental stages. A total of 50 empirical studies met the specified inclusion criteria, and a meta-analysis using correlation coefficients was used for the studies that reported adverse health implications regarding the impact of problematic gaming behaviour on depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and somatisation. Overall, the results suggested that problematic gaming behaviour is significantly associated with a wide range of detrimental health-related outcomes.

Infant and Adult Inhalation Exposure to Resuspended Biological Particulate Matter.

Human-induced resuspension of floor dust is a dynamic process that can serve as a major indoor source of biological particulate matter (bioPM). Inhalation exposure to the microbial and allergenic content of indoor dust is associated with adverse and protective health effects. This study evaluates infant and adult inhalation exposures and respiratory tract deposited dose rates of resuspended bioPM from carpets.

Aims: This systematic quantitative review identifies and summarizes the current knowledge and effects of training interventions for managing patients' challenging behaviour.

Background: Challenging behaviour is an acknowledged worldwide healthcare problem and its management can have a huge impact on quality of care. Evidence-based training interventions that focus on managing challenging behaviour are needed, but few tools for the systematic evaluation of these interventions are currently offered.

Self-reported dependence on mobile phones in young adults: A European cross-cultural empirical survey.

Background and aims Despite many positive benefits, mobile phone use can be associated with harmful and detrimental behaviors. The aim of this study was twofold: to examine (a) cross-cultural patterns of perceived dependence on mobile phones in ten European countries, first, grouped in four different regions (North: Finland and UK; South: Spain and Italy; East: Hungary and Poland; West: France, Belgium, Germany, and Switzerland), and second by country, and (b) how socio-demographics, geographic differences, mobile phone usage patterns, and associated activities predicted this perceived dependence. Methods A sample of 2,775 young adults (aged 18-29 years) were recruited in different European Universities who participated in an online survey.

European radiographers' challenges from mammography education and clinical practice - an integrative review.

Objectives: This study aims to identify European radiographers' challenges in clinical performance in mammography and the main areas of mammography that require more and better training.

Methods: An extensive search was performed to identify relevant studies focused on clinical practice, education and training in mammography published between January 2010 and December 2015 in the English language. The data were analysed by using deductive thematic analysis.

Collaborative diabetes training in outpatient primary care.

Two Universities from Oulu, Finland organised integrated and interprofessional (IP) type 2 diabetes training periods for undergraduate medical and nursing students in collaboration with the University Hospital and Health and Wellbeing Centre of Oulu. There is an ongoing health, social services and regional government reform in Finland. The services will be organised in a customer-orientated way and the reform will combine the primary and secondary services.

The aim of this study was to describe the current level of patient radiation doses in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) collected from a single centre, as well as to establish and review local diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) in ERCP. A total of 100 patients' radiation doses in ERCP were recorded, and the third-quartile method was adopted to establish local DRLs for ERCP.

Laser fluorescence in monitoring the influence of targeted tooth brushing on remineralization of initial caries lesions on newly erupted molar teeth - RCT.

Objective: This study aimed to monitor mineralization changes in initial caries lesions on newly erupted second molars using laser fluorescence (LF) scanning after a 1-month targeted tooth brushing intervention.

Methods: Altogether, 124 13- to 14-year-old school children were invited to participate. Of those who fulfilled the clinical criteria (at least one initial lesion with LF value >10 in second molars), 51 gave their written consent to participate.
