[Virtual reality in liver surgery-Planning, advanced training, testing].

Chirurgie (Heidelb)

January 2025

Klinik für Allgemein‑, Viszeral- und Transplantationschirurgie, Universitätsmedizin Mainz, Mainz, Deutschland.

Anatomical structures of the liver could be reconstructed three dimensionally from preoperative cross-sectional imaging for over 20 years. This three-dimensional (3D) representation not only optimizes the preoperative planning options but also the communication of specific operation-relevant structures can be improved using 3D models. In addition to a plastic and interactive visualization of 3D organ models, the disruptive technology of virtual reality (VR) can also provide a possibility for structured training and further education regarding surgical anatomy of the liver and operation planning.

[Prioritization of research questions in health crises-presentation of a concept developed during the COVID-19 pandemic].

Bundesgesundheitsblatt Gesundheitsforschung Gesundheitsschutz

January 2025

Institut für Evidenz in der Medizin, Universitätsklinikum Freiburg, Medizinische Fakultät, Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, Freiburg, Deutschland.

In acute crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific questions need to be addressed quickly in order to protect the health of the population and to maintain the function of the healthcare system. The prevailing urgency and the large number of issues to be addressed, combined with the limitation of time, personnel, or monetary resources make prioritization indispensable. In the COVID-19 Evidence Ecosystem (CEOsys) project initiated by the University Medicine Network (NUM), a procedure for the rapid prioritization of questions was used specifically for evidence syntheses and clinical guideline recommendations, which was further developed in the follow-up project PREparedness and Pandemic Response in Germany (PREPARED).

[Cardiovascular prevention in Saxony-Anhalt : Necessity and new perspectives].

Inn Med (Heidelb)

November 2024

Universitätsklinik für Kardiologie und Angiologie, Medizinische Fakultät, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität, Leipziger Str. 44, 39120, Magdeburg, Deutschland.

Cardiovascular risk factors (high blood pressure, smoking, overweight, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, physical inactivity) substantially rise with increasing age, particularly after middle age, whereby women are affected to a much greater extent. In the population of Saxony-Anhalt the prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors is clearly increased and the population structure in Saxony-Anhalt is particularly characterized by a high average age as well as high morbidity and mortality rates due to cardiovascular diseases. Saxony-Anhalt therefore provides a model character for the demographic development in Europe.

Institut für Physik, Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg, Universitätsplatz 2, Magdeburg, 39106, Germany.

Dynamics at low Reynolds numbers experiences recent revival in the fields of biophysics and active matter. While in bulk isotropic fluids it is exhaustively studied, this is less so in anisotropic fluids and in confined situations. Here, we combine the latter two by studying the rotation of a disk-like inclusion in a uniaxially anisotropic, globally oriented, incompressible two-dimensional fluid film.

The Azide-Wittig Reaction.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

Leibniz Institute for Catalysis (LIKAT), Albert-Einstein-Str. 29a, 18059, Rostock, Germany.

The introduction of heteroatoms into conjugated organic molecules is an important strategy to tune their reactivity and physical properties. In this realm triazabutadienes (TBDs) of the general from RC=N-N=NR' are an interesting class of compounds, however, general synthetic protocols for their generation are limited. Based on the serendipitous finding that the sterically encumbered azide Mes*N (Mes*=2,4,6-tBuCH) reacted with PMe in the presence of an aromatic aldehyde to form a TBD, we now report on the "Azide-Wittig" reaction.
