Introduction: Type 1 diabetes (T1D) requires constant self-management and substantially impacts daily life. We surveyed the experiences/burdens of people with T1D (PWD) and their caregivers.

Methods: An online survey of PWD/caregivers (aged ≥ 18 years) living in five European countries was conducted from July to August 2021.

This research examines the factor structure and psychometric properties of two well-known Dark Triad personality trait questionnaires: the Short Dark Triad (SD3) and the Dirty Dozen (DD). By analyzing data from 11 (SD3) and 5 (DD) carefully selected studies in the United States and Canada, this meta-analysis uncovers unexpected correlations among questionnaire items, challenging existing assumptions. The study employs a two-stage structural equation modeling approach to evaluate various measurement models.

Science is integral to society because it can inform individual, government, corporate, and civil society decision-making on issues such as public health, new technologies or climate change. Yet, public distrust and populist sentiment challenge the relationship between science and society. To help researchers analyse the science-society nexus across different geographical and cultural contexts, we undertook a cross-sectional population survey resulting in a dataset of 71,922 participants in 68 countries.

Partnerships as signposts? The role of spatial mobility in gendered earnings benefits of graduates.

This study analyzes the gender-specific impact of spatial mobility on earnings after graduation from higher education, extending previous research on graduates' mobility benefits, which has largely ignored gender-specific mechanisms. Based on household economic and gender role considerations, this study argues that partnerships are associated with solidifying gender differences in mobility-related earnings benefits. The study uses data from the German National Educational Panel Study (NEPS), Starting Cohort First-Year Students (SC5), and applies entropy balancing weights to account for the self-selection of mobile graduates.

Role of endoscopic sequestrectomy in the treatment of therapy-resistant radiculopathy in patients with extreme obesity: technical note and case report.

Background: Surgical treatment of therapy-resistant radiculopathy associated with lumbar herniated discs in patients with extreme obesity is a challenge for neurosurgeons. In addition to technical problems in surgery due to the abundant subcutaneous adipose tissue and perioperative risks, there are significant anesthetic risks when anesthesia is performed with a patient in the prone position. A surgical procedure should preferably be minimally traumatic and quick with minimal risks of complications.

Therefore, this cross-sectional study aimed to compare associations of a multimarker panel of biomarkers of inflammation with depressive symptoms and its symptom clusters between people with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). This cross-sectional study combined data from five studies including 1260 participants (n = 706 T1D, n = 454 T2D).

This study aimed to investigate the symptom pattern of common viral infections in patients with IMID and compare it with controls without IMIDs.

Design: A cross-sectional study conducted between 1 February and 30 April 2020, using a questionnaire.

Reactance as a Persuasive Strategy: How Health Communication Can Harness Anger to Leverage Behavior Change.

According to psychological reactance theory, individuals who perceive a threat to or loss of valued behavior will experience reactance - an amalgam of anger and negative cognitions that motivates an effort to regain behavioral freedom. The limited effects of health communication interventions have often been attributed to psychological reactance, and previous research has tended to focus on how to design health messages that mitigate this phenomenon. However, the motivational nature of reactance suggests that it might also be used to promote health.

We apply the methodology of no-go theorems as developed in physics to the question of artificial consciousness. The result is a no-go theorem which shows that under a general assumption, called dynamical relevance, Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems that run on contemporary computer chips cannot be conscious. Consciousness is dynamically relevant, simply put, if, according to a theory of consciousness, it is relevant for the temporal evolution of a system's states.

Background: Diabetes ranks among the most common chronic conditions in childhood and adolescence. It is unique among chronic conditions, in that clinical outcomes are intimately tied to how the child or adolescent living with diabetes and their parents or carers react to and implement good clinical practice guidance. It is widely recognized that the individual's perspective about the impact of trying to manage the disease together with the burden of self-management should be addressed to achieve optimal health outcomes.

Dietary choices significantly impact health and daily cognitive performance, prompting various recommendations for eating habits. Whereas much research has focused on the effects of actual satiety on cognitive performance, the influence of expectations regarding effects of satiety on performance remains underexplored. This study aims to address this gap by examining how the expectation of satiety influences cognitive outcomes, building on existing findings that highlight the role of placebo effects in shaping eating behaviour.

Purpose: Different techniques of slope-decreasing anterior closed-wedge proximal tibial osteotomy (ACW-PTO) have been described. To determine the peri- and post-operative complication rate and obtain data on bone healing in ACW-PTO with an infratuberositary approach.
