Previous studies showed that serum amyloid A (SAA) and macrophages were associated with allergic airway inflammation. However, the interaction between SAA1 and macrophages in allergic airway inflammation remains to be further elucidated. In this study, the levels of SAA1 were measured in nasal tissues from patients with eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), house dust mite (HDM)-treated BEAS-2B cells and the tissues of mice of HDM-induced allergic airway inflammation.

Purpose: Parathyroidectomy is beneficial in tertiary hyperparathyroidism (THPT) consequent to chronic renal failure. The craniofacial morphology of patients who undergo total parathyroidectomy and autologous transplantation (tPTX + AT) has not been widely studied. This study assessed the efficacy of tPTX + AT in THPT and evaluated possible improvements in craniofacial features.

Background: The Spike protein mutation severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) led to decreased protective effect of various vaccines and mAbs, suggesting that blocking SARS-CoV-2 infection by targeting host factors would make the therapy more resilient against virus mutations. Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is the host receptor of SARS-CoV-2 and its variants, as well as many other coronaviruses. Downregulation of ACE2 expression in the respiratory tract may prevent viral infection.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a heterogeneous and common upper airway disease divided into various inflammatory endotypes. Recent epidemiological findings showed a T helper 2 (Th2)-skewed dominance in CRSwNP patients. Histone modification alterations can regulate transcriptional and translational expression, resulting in abnormal pathogenic changes and the occurrence of diseases.

Introduction: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a serious inflammatory condition. Nasal fluids (NFs) present a noninvasive alternative to nasal biopsy for studying CRSwNP pathogenesis. We aimed to compare the protein and mRNA inflammation signature between nasal polyps (NPs) and NFs.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is known for high curability during early stage of the disease, and early diagnosis relies on nasopharyngeal endoscopy and subsequent pathological biopsy. To enhance the early diagnosis rate by aiding physicians in the real-time identification of NPC and directing biopsy site selection during endoscopy, we assembled a dataset comprising 2,429 nasopharyngeal endoscopy video frames from 690 patients across three medical centers. With these data, we developed a deep learning-based NPC detection model using the you only look once (YOLO) network.

Antibiotic stewardship has been prioritized by governments and health care organizations in recent years as antibiotic resistance is markedly increasing. A tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, China was chosen as a study example to undertake an implementation and effectiveness evaluation of China's antibiotic stewardship to improve and promote antimicrobial stewardship nationwide. The general surgery department of the study hospital was utilized to examine surgical site infection, and samples from across the hospital were used to identify bloodstream infection.

Background: The role of surgery compared with reirradiation in the primary treatment of patients with resectable, locally recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) who have previously received radiotherapy is a matter of debate. In this trial, we compared the efficacy and safety outcomes of salvage endoscopic surgery versus intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) in patients with resectable locally recurrent NPC.
Methods: This multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, phase 3 trial was done in three hospitals in southern China.

Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a highly heterogeneous disease with aberrant host defense responses. However, whether innate immunity is similarly impaired in patients with eosinophilic and those with noneosinophilic CRSwNP remains unclear.
Objectives: We sought to evaluate the expression and possible modulation of short palate, lung, and nasal epithelium clone 1 (SPLUNC1), an innate immune molecule, in the 2 CRSwNP subsets.

Background: The prevalence of bronchial asthma (BA) and the underlying risk factors in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) in China are largely unknown. Thus, this study is designed to assess the BA comorbidity in AR patients in two cities (Guangzhou and Zhuhai) of southern China and to determine the risk factors of BA in these AR patients.
Methods: We performed a cross-sectional, hospital-based survey in two modernized cities in southern China.

Background: Although Interleukin (IL)-17A has been suggested to play a role in corticosteroid hyporesponsiveness, whether IL-17A is able to affect the sensitivity of MUC5AC to intranasal corticosteroid treatment in patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) is unclear.
Methods: Twenty patients with moderate to severe AR were enrolled in this study and the expression of MUC5AC, IL-17A, and glucocorticoid receptor beta (GR beta) was detected using immunochemical staining and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) before and after treatment with fluticasone propionate (FP) nasal spray for 4 weeks, respectively. In addition, the effects of FP on IL-13- and IL-17A-induced MUC5AC and GR beta were also evaluated in the primarily cultured human nasal epithelial cells (HNECs) in vitro.

Objective: The mechanism of action involved in how Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus (Der p) 1 initiates the nasal allergic cascade is poorly understood.
Methods: We detected proinflammatory cytokine production (GM-CSF, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-8) and associated signal molecules in primarily cultured nasal epithelial cells (NECs) from patients with allergic rhinitis (AR) after Der p1 stimulation, using ELISA, RT-PCR, and Western blot. We also evaluated the importance of protease-activated receptors (PAR)/phosphatidylinositol 3 kinase (PI3K)/NFκB signaling pathways in IL-6 and IL-8 production using glucocorticoids and specific inhibitors, LY294002 and PDTC.
