Objective: Pregnancy does not increase the risk of bleeding from a brain arteriovenous malformation (AVM), but once an AVM has bled during pregnancy, the rate of rebleeding during the same pregnancy is high. Therefore, termination of the pregnancy is an option for patients in whom the AVM is located in an eloquent area. We report a woman with an intracerebral hemorrhage from a brain AVM who underwent a second-trimester therapeutic abortion by vaginal cesarean section.

A 77-year-old man had undergone left-lobe liver resection and a choledochojejunostomy six years previously, and thereafter he suffered from a postoperative relapse of cholangitis. He was admitted to our hospital due to liver abscesses and bacteremia caused by multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Empirical treatment with piperacillin/tazobactam was started, and the patient initially recovered.

The prototypical conjoint or so-called "chimeric" free flap heretofore has been composed of several large independent flaps, each supplied by a separate major branch, that ultimately arise from a common source vessel. The perforator-based type of chimeric flap is a relatively new concept, usually involving multiple muscle perforator flaps each based on a solitary musculocutaneous perforator, but still arising from the same "mother" vessel. This principle of split cutaneous perforator flaps has been now successfully adapted to the medial suralMEDIAL GASTROCNEMIUS perforator free flap on 2 separate occasions.

A 59-year-old female with 20-year history of slowly progressing muscle atrophy and sensory disturbance of upper extremities showed short stature, scoliosis, hunger type of sensory dissociation of the upper extremities and pyramidal tract sign of the lower extremities. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) clarified hypoplasia of the anterior pituitary lobe, Arnold-Chiari malformation and cervical syringomyelia. Insulin and arginine stimulating tests revealed partial type of isolated growth hormone (GH) deficiency but GH gene analysis detected no defects of GH genes.

A type II collagen autoimmune response results in arthritis, auricular chondritis and tympanosclerosis in humans and animals. The purpose of this study is to further define the molecular and pathogenic events involved in these lesions in rodents. Type II collagen fragment CB11-specific monoclonal antibodies induced lesions in joints, ear lobes and tympanic membranes.

We report a case of right middle cerebral artery occlusion associated with ipsilateral basal moyamoya like vessels and ruptured anterior cerebral artery aneurysm. A 59-year old man suddenly developed a consciousness disturbance and was brought to our hospital by ambulance. On admission, computed tomography (CT) of the head revealed a diffuse dense high-density lesion in the basal cistern and in the bilateral sylvian fissures, and a round homogeneous high-density area in the interhemispheric fissure.
