The anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties of steroids allow their use in a wide variety of rheumatological diseases, asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer therapy, and severe viral infections. Though life-saving or organ-saving, long-term clinical use leads to a vast array of complications. Osteoporosis is the most common orthopedic side effect of steroid abuse, while osteonecrosis is a rare occurrence.

The spacer block technique is widely used in medial fixed-bearing unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) for osteoarthritis (OA) and osteonecrosis (ON), while it is still unclear if there is any difference in the extension gap between UKAs for the two conditions. To clarify the question, the data from 87 consecutive patients (OA: 57 patients and ON: 30 patients) who underwent medial fixed-bearing UKA with the spacer block technique were retrospectively collected and analyzed. The component gap between the medial tibial osteotomy surface and the femoral trial prosthesis in extension was measured using a UKA tensor, and the preosteotomy gap was calculated in each condition.

Rationale: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is an autoimmune disorder that affects the peripheral nerves, leading to weakness and sensory symptoms. CIDP is a rare disease, and few studies have reported on anesthetic management in patients with this condition, especially the peripheral nerve block (PNB). Therefore, a safe and standardized anesthetic approach remains to be established.

Background: In patients with COVID-19 infection and respiratory insufficiency, corticosteroid (CCS) administration is recommended. Among the wide range of complications and interactions, time-limited high-dose CCS administration might promote avascular necrosis (AVN) in a cumulative dose. This systematic review updated the current evidence and characterises the trend of AVN following time-limited high-dose CCS administration in patients who had severe COVID-19, discussing management strategies and outcomes.

Osteochondral autograft transplantation (OAT) has been commonly applied in the knee and ankle while the technique has not yet been a popularity in the femoral head. In this article, we present a 28-year-old female patient, who has a history of 1-year-use of glucocorticoid in the treatment of idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, with steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (SONFH). She underwent surgical hip dislocation, osteochondroplasty, OAT, and internal fixation.

Background: Traumatic hip dislocation is a rare yet severe injury. As the long-term morbidity, subsequent complications, and clinical outcomes are nearly unknown, we aimed to analyze traumatic hip dislocations and identify specific factors that may predict the clinical outcome.
Methods: Data on injury-related characteristics and computed tomographic (CT) scans for all consecutive adult patients who had been managed for traumatic hip dislocation between 2009 and 2021 were analyzed.
