PONOP-Ir-Me (1) and POCOP-Ir-CO (2), R = Bu or Pr, are known to undergo acid-catalyzed oxidative addition of H that yields octahedral products with two hydrides in a trans-configuration. We use density functional theory to study the free energies (Δ G) and equilibrium isotope effects (EIE) for H/D addition to 1, 2, and related complexes for R = Bu, Pr, and Me. For a given R, reaction of 1 is ∼5 kcal/mol more exergonic than 2.

Today, stroke is the third most common pathology after cardiovascular disease and cancer, as well as the leading cause of disability in the world. Although some progress has been made in the field of primary and secondary stroke prevention over the past few decades, a deeper knowledge of the pathophysiology of the disease is needed to significantly improve diagnosis and therapy. MicroRNA (miRNA) is an important, recently identified class of posttranscriptional regulators of gene expression.

High-valent iron-oxo species are known for their very high reactivity, and this aspect has been studied in detail over the years. The role of axial ligands in fine-tuning the reactivity of the iron(IV)-oxo species has been particularly well studied. The corresponding role of equatorial ligands, however, has rarely been explored, and is of prime importance in the development of non-heme chemistry.

While in other parts of the world it is on decline, incidence of HIV infection continues to rise in the former Soviet Union (FSU) countries. The present study was conducted to investigate the patterns and modes of HIV transmission in FSU countries. We performed phylogenetic analysis of publicly available 2705 HIV-1 subtype A pol sequences from thirteen FSU countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

In recent years, one of the promising areas in clinical medicine is the study of impaired ments in endothelial function and arterial wall stiffness, which can be referred to as one of the important predictors of cardiovascular events in patients with chronic kidney disease, including that of diabetic etiology. There is strong evidence that endothelial function and great artery stiffness may be used as reliable clinical and instrumental indicators to evaluate the efficiency of therapeutic measures and the rate of progression of cardiovascular disorders in type 2 diabetes mellitus. The article presents data on the role of endothelial dysfunction and arterial wall stiffness in the progression of chronic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes mellitus and discusses the possibility of their correction with pharmacological agents.

Changes in chemical and physical properties resulting from water adsorption play an important role in the characterization and performance of device-relevant materials. Studies of model oxides with well-characterized surfaces can provide detailed information that is vital for a general understanding of water-oxide interactions. In this work, we study single crystals of indium oxide, the prototypical transparent contact material that is heavily used in a wide range of applications and most prominently in optoelectronic technologies.

Direct-reading instruments were used to monitor the tasks in real time and airborne particles were collected using various methods to characterize released nanomaterials using electron microscopy and elemental carbon (EC) analyses. CNT clusters and a few high aspect ratio particles were identified as being released from some activities.

Background: The number of total ankle arthroplasties (TAAs) performed in the United States has risen significantly in recent years, as has utilization of orthopaedic specialty hospital (OSH) to treat healthy patients undergoing elective surgery. The purpose of this study was to compare postoperative outcomes following TAA at an OSH when compared with a matching population of patients undergoing TAA at an academic teaching hospital (ATH).
Methods: We identified all TAA from January 2014 to December 2014 at the OSH and January 2010 to January 2016 at the ATH.

Purpose: Occupational safety and health (OSH) risks in construction of healthy housing (HH) have not been examined and collaboration between HH and OSH professionals is inadequate. The World Health Organization is developing international HH guidelines and the International Labour Organization is working to improve OSH in construction globally.
Methods: We searched for exemplary reports (including gray literature) on construction hazards; preventive measures for occupants and workers; OSH frameworks, laws, and regulations; definitions; and HH.

In the United States, home health care (HHC) is a rapidly growing industry and home infusion therapy is a rapidly growing market. HHC can present substantial occupational safety and health (OSH) risks. This article summarizes major OSH risks relevant to home infusion therapy by illustrating them through real-life scenarios collected systematically using qualitative research methods by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health-funded research projects at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Neglecting occupational safety and health (OSH) can have adverse and even deadly consequences. While OSH is important in any nation, the issue is particularly concerning in developing countries, including ones in the Caribbean. The purpose of this study, which was carried out in 2012 and 2013, was to examine the reasons for an apparent fundamental lack of awareness of OSH in the Caribbean.

Tumours respond differently to immunotherapies compared with chemotherapeutic drugs, raising questions about the assessment of changes in tumour burden-a mainstay of evaluation of cancer therapeutics that provides key information about objective response and disease progression. A consensus guideline-iRECIST-was developed by the RECIST working group for the use of modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours (RECIST version 1.1) in cancer immunotherapy trials, to ensure consistent design and data collection, facilitate the ongoing collection of trial data, and ultimate validation of the guideline.

The normocytic normochromic anemia is one of signs of progressing chronic kidney diseases mainly related to absolute or relative decreasing of production of erythropoietin and iron deficiency. The last decade discovery of hepcidin (regulator of iron homeostasis) and also various factors and signaling pathways regulating its metabolism the pathophysiology of anemia under chronic kidney diseases is understood significantly better. As a result, dramatically increased research concerning development of potentially new pharmaceuticals that can be used for treatment of kidney anemia with more or less efficiency and safety.

Introduction And Aims: Intimate partner violence (IPV) and other forms of gender-based violence (GBV) are serious public health threats among women who use drugs or engage in binge drinking in Kyrgyzstan. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and preliminary effects of a two-session IPV and GBV screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment model (WINGS) with HIV counselling and testing for women who use drugs or engage in binge drinking in Kyrgyzstan, using a pre/post-design.
Design And Methods: We screened 109 women from harm reduction non-government organisations in Kyrgyzstan, of whom 78 were eligible, 73 participated in the intervention study, and 66 completed a 3-month post-intervention follow-up.
