Reservoir computing is a machine learning framework that exploits nonlinear dynamics, exhibiting significant computational capabilities. One of the defining characteristics of reservoir computing is that only linear output, given by a linear combination of reservoir variables, is trained. Inspired by recent mathematical studies of generalized synchronization, we propose a novel reservoir computing framework with a generalized readout, including a nonlinear combination of reservoir variables.

The short term impact of radiofrequency ablative techniques and peripheral nerve block on thermoregulation in mouse models.

This study investigated the impact of multiple nerve block methods (local anesthesia, conventional radiofrequency thermocoagulation [CRF], and pulsed radiofrequency [PRF]) on thermoregulation. Focusing on hypothalamic function, the effects of local anesthesia, CRF, and PRF on central and peripheral temperatures were analyzed and compared. Our findings revealed that all three nerve block groups cause a decrease in central temperature, with the CRF group exhibiting the most pronounced effect.

This is the first study to perform an extensive methylation analysis of plasma circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) using targeted bisulfite sequencing in gastric cancer (GC) patients to evaluate the usefulness of ctDNA methylation as a new biomarker. Here, we report a case of immediate improvement of memory impairment following antiepileptic drug (AED) treatment in a patient with TLE with amygdala enlargement (TLE-AE), who rapidly developed recurrence. Learning More May Not Be Better: Knowledge Transferability in Vision-and-Language Tasks.

Is learning more knowledge always better for vision-and-language models? In this paper, we study knowledge transferability in multi-modal tasks. The current tendency in machine learning is to assume that by joining multiple datasets from different tasks, their overall performance improves. However, we show that not all knowledge transfers well or has a positive impact on related tasks, even when they share a common goal.

A Reflective Terahertz Point Source Meta-Sensor with Asymmetric Meta-Atoms for High-Sensitivity Bio-Sensing.

Biosensors operating in the terahertz (THz) region are gaining substantial interest in biomedical analysis due to their significant potential for high-sensitivity trace-amount solution detection. However, progress in compact, high-sensitivity chips and methods for simple, rapid and trace-level measurements is limited by the spatial resolution of THz waves and their strong absorption in polar solvents. In this work, a compact nonlinear optical crystal (NLOC)-based reflective THz biosensor with a few arrays of asymmetrical meta-atoms was developed.

Background/objectives: Sleep disorders, such as short sleep, are common comorbidities in individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Sleep quality and duration are directly associated with quality of life (QOL). Clarifying the influence of ASD on the association between short sleep duration and life satisfaction is an efficient way to improve the QOL of patients with ASD.

Nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) act as gateways across the nuclear envelope for molecular transport between the nucleus and the cytoplasm in eukaryotes. NPCs consist of several subcomplexes formed by multiple copies of approximately 30 different proteins known as nucleoporins (Nups). In the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, the NPC structure is unique, particularly in its outer ring subcomplexes, where the cytoplasmic and nucleoplasmic outer rings are composed of distinct sets of proteins.

It is often accompanied by disease, and the relationship between ferroptosis of immune cells and immune regulation has been attracting increasing attention. Intrinsic Temperature Dependence of Raman-Active Modes in Individual Isolated Single- and Double-Walled Carbon Nanotubes.

The intrinsic temperature dependence of Raman-active modes in carbon nanotubes (CNTs), particularly the radial breathing mode (RBM), has been a topic of a long-standing controversy. In this study, we prepared suspended individual CNTs to investigate how their Raman spectra depend on temperature and to understand the effects of environmental conditions on this dependency. We analyzed the intrinsic temperature dependence of the main Raman-active modes, including the RBM, the moiré-activated R feature, and the G-band in double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) after complete desorption of air.

Participation factors in a self-quantification program for family caregivers of community-dwelling older adults with long-term care in Japan.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the characteristics of participation in the self-quantification program for family caregivers (CGs) who provide long-term care to community-dwelling older adults. The family CGs, allocated based on the percentage of the nation's older population who needed care and met the inclusion criteria, who provided caregiving at least once a week for those aged 65 + and who were certified as needing care under the Japanese long-term care insurance program, were collected through online monitors. We compared the characteristics of the program participants and nonparticipants using logistic regression.

This study aimed to compare the immune-related protein expression on cancer cells after γ-ray, conventionally used dose rate (Conv) carbon ion (C-ion), and uHDR C-ion. B16F10 murine melanoma and Pan02 murine pancreas cancer were irradiated with γ-ray at Osaka University and with C-ion at Osaka HIMAK.

This study analyzed changes in pneumonia hospitalizations in Japan before and after the COVID-19 pandemic using Diagnosis Procedure Combination data. The proportion of inpatients with non-aspiration pneumonia (non-AP) decreased by 48.8%, whereas that of inpatients with aspiration pneumonia (AP) decreased by only 8.

The Japanese Society of Oral Oncology and Japanese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons have jointly developed clinical practice guidelines for oral cancer (oral squamous cell carcinoma) to improve and standardize the quality of oral cancer treatment in Japan. The first, second, and third editions were published in 2009, 2013, and 2019, respectively, and the 2023 edition was recently developed.
