Background: Serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels are correlated with patient outcomes in cancer. This study aimed to determine associations between the CRP level and the dietary intake, symptoms, and eating-related distress (ERD).

Methods: We conducted a multicenter survey among advanced cancer patients.

Background/objectives: Understanding food preferences is important for weight management. However, methods for assessing food preferences are not well established, especially in Japan. This study aimed to examine detailed food preferences and their associations with actual food intake in non-obese and abdominal-obese subjects using a newly developed questionnaire tailored for the Japanese population.

Background: Very late-onset schizophrenia-like psychosis (VLOSLP) is a psychotic disorder with an age of onset ≥60 years, and social isolation is a risk factor. Reports on the impact of interventions for isolation and loneliness on psychiatric symptoms in VLOSLP are limited.

Case Presentation: An 87-year-old woman, widowed and living alone, developed psychosis, including paranoia, erotomania, and visual hallucinations, at 84 years old during a period when her interactions with others were limited by the COVID-19 pandemic and osteoarthritis.

Serum leucine-rich alpha-2 glycoprotein (LRG) can monitor disease activities during biologics treatment in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is unclear whether the pretreatment serum LRG level can predict clinical effectiveness including serum trough levels of ustekinumab in patients with IBD. This multicenter prospective cohort study included 184 patients (Crohn's disease, 104; ulcerative colitis, 80) who received ustekinumab (n = 119) or anti-tumor necrosis factor (n = 65) between January 2019 and March 2023.

Suppression of Dad1 induces cardiomyocyte death by weakening cell adhesion.

As cardiomyocyte loss causes heart failure, inhibition of cardiomyocyte death may be a therapeutic strategy against heart failure. In this study, we have identified defender against cell death 1 (Dad1) as a candidate regulator of cardiomyocyte death, using complementary DNA microarray and siRNA knockdown screening. Dad1 is a subunit of oligosaccharyltransferase (OST) complex that is responsible for protein N-glycosylation; however, its function in cardiomyocytes remains unknown.

We report a case of superior trunk brachial plexus injury following a right mini-thoracotomy mitral valve repair. A 45-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus, who was on steroids and immunosuppressive drugs, underwent mitral valve repair via right mini-thoracotomy. The patient was positioned in the left semisagittal position with the right upper arm elevated.

Pott's Puffy Tumor Initially Presenting as Eyelid Swelling without Typical Forehead Swelling: A Case Report.

Pott's puffy tumor is a rare complication of frontal sinusitis characterized by frontal bone osteomyelitis with a subperiosteal abscess typically presenting with forehead swelling. We herein report a 21-year-old man with Pott's puffy tumor presenting as eyelid swelling on the opposite side of the sinusitis, without typical forehead swelling. Initially treated for sinusitis and pre-septal cellulitis with poor response, head magnetic resonance imaging revealed bilateral subdural abscesses and osteomyelitis of the frontal and bilateral parietal bones, leading to the diagnosis.

Background Advances in imaging technology and the increased use of abdominal imaging have led to a rise in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) detection. While surgery remains the primary treatment for small RCCs, minimally invasive procedures like cryoablation are gaining popularity, particularly for patients with comorbidities or renal dysfunction. CT-guided cryoablation offers advantages, including high spatial resolution and real-time visualization during the procedure.

Aim: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of computed tomography (CT)-guided core needle biopsy (CNB) for para-aortic retroperitoneal lesions, identify factors affecting false-negative results, and explore the feasibility of alternative CT-guided and ultrasound-guided approaches for challenging anatomical regions.

Background: The loss of corneal epithelial stem cells from the limbus at the edge of the cornea has severe consequences for vision, with the pathological manifestations of a limbal stem-cell deficiency (LSCD) difficult to treat.
