A catalytic oxidation reaction for Acid Blue 7 dye synthesis was evaluated in water. Without lead oxide or manganese oxide derivatives as oxidants, polyoxometalate catalysts were investigated to reduce the usage of harmful heavy metal. A catalyst was prepared by mixing silicotungstic acid with copper oxide, and aqueous hydrogen peroxide (30%) was used as an oxidizing agent.

In this study, we investigated the influence of the Catalyst-Layer (CL) structure on Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) performance using an inkjet coating printer, and we especially focused on the CL thickness and the electrode area. In order to evaluate the influence of CL thickness, we prepared four Membrane Electrode Assemblies (MEAs), which have one, four, five and six CLs, respectively, and evaluated it by an overpotential analysis. As a result, the overpotentials of an activation and a diffusion increased with the increase of thickness of CL.

Two isomers of heteroleptic bis(bidentate) ruthenium(II) complexes with dimethyl sulfoxide (dmso) and chloride ligands, trans(Cl,N )- and trans(Cl,N )-[Ru(bpy)Cl(dmso-S)(Hdpa)] (bpy: 2,2'-bipyridine; Hdpa: di-2-pyridylamine), are synthesized. This is the first report on the selective synthesis of a pair of isomers of cis-[Ru(L)(L')XY] (L≠L': bidentate ligands; X≠Y: monodentate ligands). The structures of the ruthenium(II) complexes are clarified by means of X-ray crystallography, and the signals in the H NMR spectra are assigned based on H- H COSY spectra.

This study aims to reveal spatial distribution of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur species in marine sediments in Hiroshima Bay, Japan, by direct analyses using a combination of detection tubes and X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy. In summer and autumn, the hydrogen sulfide concentration ranged from <0.1 to 4 mg-S L.

In Japan, environmental standards for contaminants in groundwater and in leachate from soil are set with the assumption that they are used for drinking water over a human lifetime. Where there is neither a well nor groundwater used for drinking, the standard is thus too severe. Therefore, remediation based on these standards incurs excessive effort and cost.
