Background: Most cases of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) are caused by infertility treatment using human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). OHSS is widely known to have a "spoke-wheel" appearance on imaging, presenting as bilateral symmetric enlargement of ovaries with multiple cysts of varying sizes. When this spoke-wheel appearance is observed in patients not undergoing infertility treatment, tumor-derived hormones such as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and hCG should be measured.

Nitric oxide (NO)-donor drugs, which stimulate reduced form of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), have different efficacy to the arteries and veins. This study examined whether sGC activators, which activate oxidized/apo sGC, also have arteriovenous selectivity similar to that of NO-donor drugs. The mechanical responses of the isolated blood vessels were assessed using the organ chamber technique and protein expression was verified using western blotting.

The KCNE family (KCNE1-5) is a group of single transmembrane auxiliary subunits for the voltage-gated K channel KCNQ1. The KCNQ1-KCNE complexes are crucial for numerous physiological processes including ventricular repolarization and K recycling in epithelial cells. We identified a new member of the KCNE family, "KCNE6", from zebrafish.

Background: Fungal infections are significant complications of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Although various risk factors for poor outcomes in patients with COVID-19 have been identified, clinical and treatment factors associated with fungal infections in patients with severe COVID-19 remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate clinical factors associated with fungal infections during severe COVID-19 treatment.

Background And Aims: Perforation is a rare but serious adverse event associated with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). There is no consensus to guide clinicians in the management of ERCP-related duodenal perforations, making it difficult to determine whether surgical or endoscopic treatment is optimal. The present study retrospectively evaluated the characteristics and clinical outcomes of patients who experienced ERCP-related duodenal perforations according to the mechanism of injury.

The Japanese Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis (JSTH) published the first-ever disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) guidelines in 2009. Fifteen years later, the JSTH developed new guidelines covering DIC associated with various underlying conditions. These guidelines were developed in accordance with the GRADE system to determine the strength of the recommendations and certainty of the evidence.

Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) associated with hematologic malignancies, particularly acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), is characterized by marked fibrinolytic activation, which leads to severe bleeding complications. Therefore, appropriate diagnosis and management of DIC are crucial for preventing bleeding-related mortality. However, to date, no clinical guidelines have specifically addressed hematologic malignancy-associated DIC.

Background: Achieving precise alignment and soft tissue balance is crucial for optimal total knee arthroplasty (TKA) outcomes. We aimed to explore how tibiofemoral compression force (TFCF) varies with knee flexion and its correlation with functional outcomes.
Methods: This prospective study included 60 patients undergoing cruciate-retaining TKA (FINE Total Knee System).
Background And Objectives: The aim of this study was to externally validate the prognostic score for mechanically ventilated patients with novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), the simplified intubated COVID-19 predictive (sICOP) score.
Methods: This was a retrospective, multicenter, observational study conducted using the database registry of patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 at 66 hospitals in Japan. The data of 146 mechanically ventilated COVID-19 patients were analyzed.
