This biomechanical study evaluated comparison osteosynthesis of the femoral neck fracture model by 3 cannulated screw implants and new perforated H beam implants under different loading conditions with 45 third generation right proximal femur bones. A standardized Pauwels Type 3 of the femoral neck fracture was performed in the femur models. For assessing the rigidity and strength of fixation methods, the proximal femur bones after their osteosynthesis were then mechanically tested in axial compression, and torsional and dynamic axial compression loading.

[Functional comparison in the treatment of Weber type B ankle fractures with suture device versus screw].

The methods used for reduction are metal or bioabsorbable syndesmotic set screws, direct repair, and sutures with or without buttons. The purpose of this study was to compare the clinical function of patients who sustained Weber B ankle fractures and were treated with the TightRope system or a syndesmotic set screw.

[Doxycycline as an adjuvant in postsurgical recovery of rotator cuff injuries. One-year follow-up].

Background: The severity and progression of rotator cuff tears have forced research on new treatment pathways such as metalloprotease inhibition, which has shown a reduction in healing time and improvement in the structure of collagen fibers.

Objective: To evaluate the use of doxycycline as a healing enhancer in rotator cuff tears after surgical treatment.

Material And Methods: 20 patients were included; they were divided into two groups, 10 with the use of doxycycline and 10 without it after arthroscopic repair with one-year follow-up.

We report a case of an 18-year-old woman, with bilateral acute inflammatory pain on the hip area, during the premenstrual period, and progressive increase in volume and rigidity of both hips. Bilateral exuberant soft tissue calcifications were present on the radiographic exams, and the patient also presented with bilateral short-length hallux valgus. A heterozygous mutation in the protein kinase domain of gene was found, allowing the diagnosis of fibrodysplasia ossificans progressive.

Calcar Preservation Arthroplasty for Unstable Intertrochanteric Femoral Fractures in Elderly.

Background: The treatment of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly is still controversial. The purpose of this study is to present treatment strategies for unstable intertrochanteric fractures with hemiarthroplasty using standard uncemented collared femoral stems and at the same time preserving the fractured calcar fragment.

Methods: Fifty-four patients aged 75 years or older with unstable intertrochanteric fractures were included in this prospective cohort study.

Can we use intraoperative femoral tunnel length measurement as a clue for proper femoral tunnel placement on coronal plane during ACL reconstruction?

Introduction: Successful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is dependent on correct placement of both tibial and femoral tunnels. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether we can use intraoperative femoral tunnel length measurement to estimate the correct femoral tunnel placement on coronal plane.

Methods: This prospective study comprised 164 consecutive patients who underwent ACL reconstruction surgery.

Ultrasonographic Graf type IIa hip needs more consideration in newborn girls.

Purpose: According to hip ultrasonography by Graf's method, the type IIa hip has a certain degree of physiological delay in ossification of the bony acetabular roof. The aim of this case-control study was to evaluate the natural history of the type IIa hip.

Methods: Four hundred and thirty-one type IIa hips were identified in 312 of 1,690 ultrasonographically screened newborns with a mean age of 27 days.

[Atypical femoral fractures associated with long-term treatment with bisphosphonates].

Introduction: Long-term treatment with bisphosphonates has been associated to atypical femoral fractures whose features are now clearly defined.

Clinical Cases: We present two cases of female patients under bisphosphonate treatment for over 10 years who were admitted to our institution for subtrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures after low-energy trauma. They presented, respectively, a transverse and a short oblique femoral fracture, with thickening of the lateral cortex.

[Surgical treatment of spinal tuberculosis: an orthopedic service experience].

Introduction: Tuberculosis is responsible for more than 40% of spine infections. While tuberculostatic chemotherapy remains the gold-standard treatment, surgical intervention is necessary only in specific cases. This paper reports the results of 33 patients with spine tuberculosis operated in our department in the last 15 years.

[Traumatic hip dislocation in pediatric patients. Report of 5 cases].

We present five cases of patients with traumatic hip dislocation diagnosed clinically, with X-rays and CT scan. Closed reduction was performed under IV sedation and fluoroscopic control. Patients wore a Dennis Brown brace at 45 degrees of abduction and neutral rotation.

[New perspectives on degenerative disease treatment].

The degenerative disc disease (DDD) is a chronic and multifactorial condition of the intervertebral disc that can manifest itself by axial pain, radiculopathy, myelopathy and spinal stenosis. It constitutes an increasing cause of lumbar pain and morbidity in Western Societies, with important socio-economic implications. The available treatment options do not modify the intervertebral disc degeneration process and they are not always capable of relieving symptoms.
