[Relation between oral health conditions and diabetes mellitus in a japanese population from Bauru-SP-Brazil].

The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine the oral health condition in a Japanese population aged 40 to 79, in Bauru, Brazil as well as its association with the occurrence of diabetes mellitus and impaired glucose tolerance. It involved 530 subjects, from both sexes. All persons of first generation (Issei) and a random sample of one third of second generation (Nisei) were submitted to a home interview.

[Periodontal conditions and diabetes mellitus in the Japanese-Brazilian population].

Objective: To evaluate the relationship between diabetic status and periodontal conditions in the Japanese-Brazilian population.

Methods: The sample consisted of 1,315 subjects, of both sexes, first (Issei) and second (Nisei) generations, aged 30 to 92 years, living in Bauru, Brazil. Edentulism and presence of 6 null sextants were the exclusion criteria for the sample.

[Integrated approach to the oral health of drug-addicted undergoing rehabilitation].

Considering the current context of increasing and early utilization of licit or illicit drugs (habit-forming substances), the aim of this study was to evaluate the oral health conditions of 102 males from the Esquadrão da Vida rehabilitation center, in Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil. The evaluation was carried out by means of the assessment of caries experience (DMFT), dental plaque (PHP), gingival index and salivary flow. This study also aimed at instituting an educational-preventive program and evaluating its efficacy.

[The relationship between oral habits and malocclusion in preschool children].

Objective: To evaluate the way oral habits and speech problems affect dental occlusion in preschool children.

Methods: A random sample of 2,139 boys and girls aged 3-5 years old was evaluated. The children were enrolled in private and state institutions in the city of Bauru, São Paulo State, Brazil.

[Taste preference for sweets and caries prevalence in preschool children].

Objective: To assess the preference for sweetness among preschool children and differences between less and more deprived groups. In addition, to assess whether sweet taste preference was associated with presence of caries.

Methods: The sample was composed by 572 preschool children aged between 4 and 6, distributed in three day nurseries of varied socioeconomic background.
