The case of a former high-level professional soccer player is presented at 10-year follow-up after arthroscopically implanted lateral Collagen Meniscus Implant (CMI). The patient achieved a full-knee functional recovery and a complete sport resumption to the same pre-injury level for several soccer seasons and he is still performing semi-professional soccer activity (minor league) 10 years after surgery.Level of evidence Case Report.

Background: The main purpose of this retrospective case series study was to evaluate long-term radiographic and clinical outcomes of a consecutive series of patients diagnosed with isolated, displaced, closed talar neck or body fractures treated by open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). Secondly, the aim was to verify the influence of the location of talar fractures on the outcomes, the prognostic value of the Hawkins sign, whether operative delays promote avascular necrosis (AVN) and if the fractures require emergent surgical management.
Methods: From January 2007 to December 2012, at our institution, 31 patients underwent ORIF through the use of screws.

The presence of a correlation between stomatognathic and postural systems has been investigated by different authors trying to identify a possible influence of dental occlusion on body posture and balance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between dental occlusion and neuromuscular control in a healthy young population using modern evaluation tools. 25 subjects (9 males and 16 females, aged 23 to 44) were evaluated for dental occlusion, particularly in relation to overjet and overbite parameters, anterior and posterior crossbite, scissor bite, mandibular crowding, molar and canine class, and deviation of the median dental line.

Survivorship of unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA) remains a drawback, especially compared with the outcome of total knee arthroplasty. This could be improved by identifying and correcting failure mechanisms. To this purpose, this study aimed at exploring failure modalities of UKA, with particular focus on the role of joint line (JL) position and alignment as variable to be optimized for a successful outcome.

Purpose: This prospective study was undertaken to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the Synovasure™ α-defensin lateral flow assay to detect or exclude infection and to compare it to the sensitivity and specificity of other diagnostic criteria according to the International Consensus Group on Periprosthetic Joint Infection (PJI).
Methods: All patients who have undergone revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from September 2015 to July 2016 were included: 16 chronic (more than 3 months after performing arthroplasty) infections and 35 aseptic joints were identified. The diagnostic performance of single test was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses.

A 51-year-old man presented with elastofibroma (EF) of the gluteal region with a concomitant contralateral lesion. The patient presented with a slow growing mass of the proximal third of the right buttock and had swelling, discomfort in sitting, and right-hip pain during walking for 2 months. On MRI, a soft-tissue mass was noted between the gluteus maximus and the gluteus medius muscle.

Anatomic double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction aims to restore the 2 functional bundles of the ACL in an attempt to better reproduce the native biomechanics of the injured knee and promote long-term knee health. However, this concept is not fully accepted and is not performed on a standard basis. In addition, the superiority of this technique over the conventional single-bundle technique has been questioned, especially the long-term clinical results.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOsteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a rare yet fascinating disease affecting young, active patients. It remains a 'mysterious disease' whose etiopathology, still unclear, is the subject of ongoing studies aiming improving the knowledge of this condition and, therefore, treatment options, too. Even though the first descriptions of intra-articular loose bodies date back to very ancient times, it is only relatively recently that, thanks to the contribution of some very eminent physicians, it became recognized as a specific orthopaedic condition.

Arthroscopic partial medial meniscectomy is a very common orthopaedic procedure performed for symptomatic, irreparable meniscus tears. It is usually associated with a very good outcome and minimal complications. In some patients with tight medial compartment, the posterior horn of the medial meniscus can be difficult to visualize, and access in this area with instruments may be challenging.

The most commonly used autografts for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction are the bone-patellar tendon-bone and hamstring tendons. Each has its advantages and limitations. The bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft can lead to more donor-site morbidity, and the hamstring autograft can be unpredictable in size.

Purpose: To quantitatively describe the kinematic behaviour of the hip joint with particular interest in the contribution of the periarticular soft tissues to the stability. To quantitatively assess the sealing function of the acetabular labrum of an intact labrum, the effect of a labral-chondral separation and different surgical approaches. The biomechanics of the joint during specific clinical examinations was also assessed.
