This study aims to translate and culturally adapt the Toronto Extremity Salvage Score (TESS) for Latin American Spanish-speaking patients, enhancing the tool's accessibility for evaluating postsurgical functional outcomes in sarcoma patients across Latin America. The TESS questionnaires for lower extremity (LE) and upper extremity (UE) were translated and adapted following international guidelines. The process included forward and backward translation, expert committee review, and pretesting with cognitive interviewing.

Although physical activity has been shown to influence physical, social, and emotional well-being, individuals experiencing quadriparesis often lack knowledge of and access to adaptive sporting programs. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions about wheelchair rugby's impact on community participation and well-being for individuals with quadriparesis and to identify functional barriers to participation. Qualitative semistructured interviews were used to explore the perception of participation in wheelchair rugby on community participation and well-being for adults with quadriparesis.

Background: Previous studies have examined the relationship between patient resilience and functional outcome scores after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). However, past studies have failed to explore the longitudinal relationship between preoperative resilience and functional outcomes 2 years after ACLR.
Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between preoperative patient resilience and functional outcomes 2 years after ACLR.

Since Dr. Frank Jobe performed the initial surgery on Tommy John in 1974, the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction (UCLR), colloquially "Tommy John Surgery," described in 1986 has evolved as the gold standard treatment for UCL tears. The crux of technique modifications involve flexor pronator mass (FPM) management, ulnar nerve transposition (UNT), graft selection, or graft-fixation options.

Purpose: Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) with prior knee cartilage surgery have unclear outcomes in the literature. This study compared outcomes after TKA in patients with or without prior knee cartilage surgery, and we hypothesized there would be equivocal outcomes between groups.
Methods: A retrospective matched case-control study was conducted on patients from our institution who underwent ipsilateral cartilage procedure(s) and TKA (cases) or TKA alone (controls) from 2000 to 2022.

Introduction: Although clinical research has traditionally been a part of orthopaedic residency, there are now certain core requirements created by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), which outline the type of research activities to be completed during residency. However, there are no specific details included in the ACGME guidelines regarding how these milestones are to be met. Nor is there specificity regarding expectations of scholarly activity to be completed by the time of graduation.

Purpose: To compare the biomechanical properties of quadriceps tendon (QT) graft stitch methods using 3 different suture systems for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.
Methods: A total of 48 QTs were harvested from cadaveric knee specimens (age: 73 ± 7 years; range, 66-86 years). Samples were randomly divided into 3 groups where different suture needle systems were used to create 2 stitch methods: whipstitch (WS) and locking stitch (LS).

Background: Robotic systems for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may utilize computed tomography three-dimensional modeling and intraoperative ligamentous balancing data to assist surgeons with implant size and position. This study evaluated the effect of such robotic systems on implant selection.
Methods: We reviewed 645 TKAs performed with a single prosthetic design at 2 academic medical centers between 2016 and 2022.

Objective: A quarter of spine surgery patients take antidepressants. Basic science research has suggested serotonergic antidepressants impair platelet function. This has been supported by only a small number of works in the setting of spine surgery.

Objective: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious postoperative adverse event after spine surgery. In patients with pain refractory to typical multimodal analgesia regimens after spine surgery, whom are often chronic opioid users, perioperative ketamine is an alternative analgesic that has grown in popularity. The aim of this study is to assess the risk of VTE in chronic opioid users undergoing spine surgery.

Reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA) has become a widely used procedure since its introduction in the 1980s, and is currently used to treat a wider range of conditions than its original indication. The original Grammont-style RSA revolutionized shoulder arthroplasty but had several limitations, including scapular notching and reduced rotational motion. This review discusses the evolution of RSA design, particularly the development of a lateralized center of rotation constructs, which aims to improve all the disadvantages associated with the Grammont-style design and more closely reproduce the native anatomy in order to improve patient outcomes in an expanded context of pathologies.

Over half of orthopedic surgeons will change jobs prior to their fifth year in practice. Commonly cited reasons behind the change include compensation, work-life balance, poor job fit, and dissatisfaction with management. Many of these factors are difficult to vet as a job applicant and are often only realized during the course of real-life practice.

Introduction: Humeral loosening (HL) is an uncommon indication for revision shoulder arthroplasty. This systematic review describes patient characteristics (prosthetic type removed, reimplanted, and septic vs. aseptic loosening status), re-revision rate, and outcomes following revision surgery for a loose humeral stem.

Background: Patients with large labral tears represent a subset of traumatic shoulder instability cases. Outcomes after arthroscopic stabilization in these patients have been studied less compared with other tears.
Purpose: To establish minimal clinically important difference (MCID), Patient Acceptable Symptom State (PASS), and substantial clinical benefit (SCB) thresholds for patients after arthroscopic repair of labral tears ≥270°.
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in 90-day clinical outcomes between patients treated with generic volar locking plates (VLPs) and conventional VLPs in distal radius fractures. Secondary aims included assessing for differences in surgical characteristics and cost between the groups.
Methods: From November 2022 to April 2023, a prospective block-randomized study was undertaken in which surgeons alternated between using a generic VLP and a conventional VLP each month.

Background: Revision anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been documented to have inferior outcomes compared with primary ACL reconstruction. The reasons why remain unknown.
Purpose: To determine whether surgical factors performed at the time of revision ACL reconstruction can influence a patient's outcome at 6-year follow-up.

Methods: A retrospective case control study was developed from 542 patients who underwent primary THA over a 9-year period to form two patient cohorts. Two hundred and seventy-one patients diagnosed with LTP were matched with 271 controls.

Introduction Patients are increasingly relying on the internet for information about their medical diagnoses, but there is little regulation on the content of these websites. The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality of the informational content available on the internet regarding DeQuervain's tenosynovitis. Methods The search phrasing "'DeQuervain' OR 'DeQuervain's' OR 'Radial styloid tenosynovitis' OR 'DeQuervain's synovitis' OR 'Wrist tendonitis'" was entered into the five most commonly used search engines, and the first 50 universal resource locators (URLs) were recorded, including sponsored sites.

Background: Obesity is associated with increased infection risk after primary total joint arthroplasty. In this retrospective cohort analysis, we sought to assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and infection recurrence after two-stage revision total joint arthroplasty for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI).
Methods: Patients were grouped by BMI (< 30, 30 to 40, and ≥ 40) as non-obese, obese, and morbidly obese, and assessed for associations and timing of PJI reinfection as well as readmissions and complications.
