Purpose: To summarize complication rates, reoperation rates, length-of-stay (LOS), patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), and range of motion following total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) in patients with preexisting psychiatric disorders (PDs) compared to controls.

Methods: Three databases (MEDLINE, PubMed, and EMBASE) were searched from inception to 4 March 2024 to identify studies comparing outcomes between patients undergoing anatomic (aTSA) or reverse TSA (rTSA) with or without a preexisting psychiatric condition. The authors adhered to the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses and revised assessment of multiple systematic review guidelines.

Incorporating zinc into biocompatible materials has been identified as a potential strategy for promoting bone regeneration and osteogenic activity during hard tissue regeneration. This work aimed to investigate the impact of zinc doping on the structure of akermanite, which was synthesized using the sol-gel combustion method, with the goal of improving the biological response. Powder XRD and FT-IR analysis confirmed the phase purity and the respective functional groups associated with Zn-doped akermanite.

When Technology Meets Anxiety:The Moderating Role of AI Usage in the Relationship Between Social Anxiety, Learning Adaptability, and Behavioral Problems Among Chinese Primary School Students.

Objective: This study aims to examine the relationships between social anxiety, learning adaptability, AI technology usage, and behavioral problems among primary school students, with a focus on the mediating role of learning adaptability and the moderating role of AI usage.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1240 primary school students aged 8-15 in Luzhou, Sichuan Province. Social anxiety was measured using the Social Anxiety Scale for Children (SASC), learning adaptability was assessed with the Children's Learning Adaptability Questionnaire (CSAQ), behavioral problems were evaluated using the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), and AI tool usage was gauged through a self-developed questionnaire.

Attaching artificial Achilles and tibialis cranialis tendons to bone using suture anchors in a rabbit model: assessment of outcomes.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the timing and mode of failure of metallic screw-type suture anchors used to attach artificial tendons to bone in an New Zealand White rabbit model.

Study Design: Metal suture anchors with braided composite sutures of varying sizes (United States Pharmacopeia (USP) size 1, 2, or 5) were used to secure artificial tendons replacing both the Achilles and tibialis cranialis tendons in 12 female New Zealand White rabbits. Artificial tendons were implanted either at the time of (immediate replacement,  = 8), or four/five weeks after (delayed replacement,  = 4) resection of the biological tendon.

Limited health literacy in shoulder and elbow patients.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate health literacy in orthopedic shoulder and elbow patients.

Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included all new English-speaking adult patients presenting to two fellowship-trained shoulder and elbow surgeons from October 2020-July 2021. Patients who did not complete the Brief Health Literacy Screen Tool (BRIEF) were excluded, leaving 594 patients.

Patient-specific mini-open subpectoral long head of the biceps tenodesis with anatomic tensioning: A surgical technique.

Long head of the biceps tendon pathology is a well-described proximal shoulder pain generator. While optimal treatment strategy remains controversial, popular operative management includes biceps tenodesis. However, appropriate restoration of the anatomic length-tension relationship of the biceps with tenodesis remains a challenge.

Outcomes after revision surgery for glenoid baseplate failure in reverse shoulder arthroplasty.

Background: The purpose of this study was to report clinical outcomes in patients who underwent revision surgery for glenoid baseplate failure after index reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA).

Methods: A retrospective review was performed to identify patients from 2010 to 2020 at a single institution who sustained glenoid baseplate failure after RSA and underwent revision surgery. Exclusion criteria included periprosthetic joint infection or lack of minimum 1 year clinical and radiographic follow-up.

Sleep alterations following elective shoulder surgery: A systematic review.

Background: Poor sleep quality due to nocturnal pain is increasingly reported as a major symptom in several shoulder pathologies. Sleep disturbance has been reported in up to 89% after rotator cuff tears and is frequently reported as the primary reason for referring patients to surgery. As a result, it is important to understand the impact of shoulder surgery on a patient's sleep quality.

Redefining superior escape of the humeral head: A radiographic and magnetic resonance imaging study.

Background: The underlying shoulder pathology in radiographic superior escape of the humeral head and association between acromiohumeral interval (AHI) on radiographs and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are poorly understood.

Methods: A retrospective review of shoulder radiographs and MRI scans was undertaken. AHI was measured using both modalities.

Medical malpractice litigation following humeral fractures in the United States.

Background: The purpose of this study is to characterize malpractice claims against orthopedic surgeons treating humeral fractures and determine factors associated with plaintiff verdicts and settlements.

Methods: The Westlaw legal database was queried for all cases involving humeral fractures. Patient demographics, causes cited for litigation, case outcomes, and indemnity payments were collected to determine common factors that lead plaintiffs to pursue legal action.

Traumatic internal carotid artery aneurysm distant from facial bone fractures treated with a flow diverter stent: A case report.

Background: Entrapment neuropathies, marked by nerve compression at various anatomical sites, can be effectively managed using conservative approaches like injections. Dextrose 5 % water injection has emerged as a potential therapy by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue regeneration. We aimed to evaluate dextrose injection's efficacy in treating entrapment neuropathies in upper extremities.

Evaluation of tension-band osteosynthesis for cubitus varus deformity in pediatric patients: A retrospective review.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of lateral closing wedge osteotomy with tension-band wire fixation for correcting cubitus varus deformity in pediatric patients. The primary objective was to assess the bone union rate, functional outcomes, and potential complications associated with this surgical approach.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of 104 pediatric cases (ages 7-15) with post-traumatic cubitus varus deformity treated between January 2018 and December 2019 at the Pediatric Orthopedic Department.
