Background: Treating ring avulsion injuries continues to challenge the reconstructive hand surgeon. The complex operation draws from plastic surgery and orthopedic surgery principles to provide soft-tissue coverage, skeletal fixation, tendon repair, and neurovascular reconstruction. Furthermore, the application of microsurgical techniques has enabled the revascularization and replantation of completely avulsed fingers.

Many patients are pursuing simultaneous facial and hand rejuvenation with the latter receiving increased interest in recent years. Various materials have been purported to rejuvenate the hands including fat, calcium hydroxyapatite, and hyaluronic fillers. Despite the seemingly ubiquitous use of fillers, the Food and Drug Administration has approved only a select number for hand rejuvenation.

Background: The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' "Do Your Homework" campaign strives to educate the public on how to identify providers who can safely perform aesthetic/cosmetic/plastic surgery. Although the campaign continues to heighten awareness, misperceptions remain in determining who these providers are. This study aims to examine whether the general public is confused by the titles "plastic surgeon" or "cosmetic surgeon," and accordingly, evaluates whether misperceptions need to be remedied to have an informed and safe patient.

Neurotoxins and fillers continue to remain in high demand, comprising a large part of the growing business of cosmetic minimally invasive procedures. Multiple Food and Drug Administration-approved safe yet different products exist within each category, and the role of each product continues to expand. The authors review the literature to provide an overview of the use of neurotoxins and fillers and their future directions.
