Nucleotide binding and oligomerization domain 2 (NOD2), a member of intracellular NOD-like receptors (NLRs) family, recognizes the bacterial peptidoglycan, muramyl dipeptide (MDP) and initiates host immune response. The precise ligand recognition mechanism of NOD2 has remained elusive, although studies have suggested leucine rich repeat (LRR) region of NOD2 as the possible binding site of MDP. In this study, we identified multiple transcripts of NOD2 gene in buffalo (buNOD2) and at least five LRR variants (buNOD2-LRRW (wild type), buNOD2-LRRV1-V4) were found to be expressed in buffalo peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

The increase of spikelet number in the panicles of modern super rice has made the architecture compact, as the extra spikelets are accommodated mostly on secondary branches than on primary branches. However, the grain yield did not improve because of poor grain filling, which was more visible in the basal spikelets than apical spikelets. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of the compactness and positional difference of spikelets in the panicle on grain filling by comparing the activity and genetic expression of starch synthesising enzymes in the developing kernels of lax-(Upahar and CR3856-45-11-2-7-2-5 (CR-45)) and compact-(Mahalaxmi and CR3856-29-14-2-1-1-1 (CR-29)) panicle cultivars.

Superoxide dismutases (SODs) act as a first line of the enzymatic antioxidant defense system to control cellular superoxide anion toxicity. Previously, several inhibitors have been widely identified and catalogued for inhibition of SOD activity; however, still the information about the mechanism of interaction and points toward the inhibitor interactions in structures of SODs in general and in extracellular (Ec)-SOD in particular is still in naive. Impact of Pretreatment and Drying Methods on Quality Attributes of Onion Shreds.

Experiments were conducted on dry untreated onion shreds (2 mm thickness) or treated with salt (5% solution) and potassium metabisulphite (0.5% solution) in convective drier at 50 °C ((46±4) % relative humidity (RH)), 55 °C ((35±4) % RH), 60 °C ((28±4) % RH) and 65 °C ((20±4) % RH), heat pump-assisted convective drier at 35 °C ((32±2) % RH), 40 °C ((26±2) % RH), 45 °C ((19±2) % RH) and 50 °C ((15±2) % RH) and microwave-assisted convective drier at four microwave power levels, 120, 240, 360 and 480 W. The quality parameters of the dried onion shreds, namely rehydration ratio, colour difference, pyruvic and ascorbic acid contents and sensory scores were evaluated.
