Objective: Adult-type granulosa cell tumors (GCT) are sex cord-stromal tumors and often accompanied with abdominal distention and hyperestrogenism-related symptoms. Adult-type GCT-presenting ascites and pleural effusion is extremely rare.

Objective: Endometriosis-associated epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) often includes clear cell carcinoma and endometrioid-type carcinoma. Due to the low incidence of primary mucinous EOC and absence of association between endometriosis and primary mucinous EOC, we present an unusual endometriosis-associated mixed mucinous and endometrioid adenocarcinoma arising from the same ovary.

Comparison of Intravitreal Dexamethasone Implant and Ranibizumab in Vitrectomized Eyes with Diabetic Macular Edema.

Purpose: This retrospective study aimed to compare the efficacy of intravitreal ranibizumab (IVR) and intravitreal dexamethasone implant (IDI) for pseudophakic vitrectomized eyes with diabetic macular edema (DME) in a single institution.

Methods: Pseudophakic vitrectomized eyes with treatment-naïve center-involved DME were enrolled, with one eye in each patient. They were divided into two groups: one group receiving IDI every 3 to 4 months and another group receiving IVR using 3 monthly plus treat-and-extend injections, all with monthly follow-up for 6 months.

Although pregnant women are a vulnerable population during the infectious pandemics, extremely rare cases of pregnant women infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are described in Taiwan. We share our experience to manage a pregnant women with COVID-19 in the third trimester and subsequent delivery at term.

Barrier performance and biodegradability of antibacterial poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) nanocomposites reinforced with a new MWCNT-ZnO nanomaterial.

A new nanomaterial or nano-filler in the form of multiwalled carbon nanotube-zinc oxide (MWCNT-ZnO) was synthesized for the purpose of modifying poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) and its derivative (modified PBAT or MPBAT) through a melt-blending method (MPBAT was obtained by introducing maleic anhydride groups into PBAT). The effect of the new nano-filler on the properties of resultant nanocomposites was determined from the characterization of mechanical properties, morphology, crystallinity, thermal stability, barrier properties, hydrophilicity, conductivity, antibacterial property, and biodegradability. The results showed that MPBAT nanocomposites had stronger mechanical properties, better barrier properties, and higher electrical conductivity than PBAT nanocomposites.

Handgrip strength during admission for COPD exacerbation: impact on further exacerbation risk.

Background: Low handgrip strength (HGS) is independently associated with a higher exacerbation risk in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); however, the relationship between HGS while being admitted for COPD exacerbation and further exacerbation risk after discharge remains unclear.

Methods: We enrolled patients admitted for COPD exacerbation between January 2018 and June 2019. HGS tests were done within 3 days after admission.

Objective: Idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL) may not only impair cochlear function but also damage vestibular structures, including the saccule, utricle, semicircular canals, and vestibular afferents. Boiling for 15 minutes improves nutrient profiles in fishes included in the diets of dialysis patients.

Introduction: Little is known about the effects of boiling on nutrient levels in fishes that have a relatively high phosphorus-to-protein ratio (PPR), which are important sources of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. We hypothesized that the beneficial effects of boiling for a shorter duration (15 min) on nutrient contents in fishes were similar to those of boiling for a longer duration (30 min), which has been shown to decrease the PPR in meat.

Methods: The protein, fat, and phosphorus contents and the PPR of three cooked fish species and their corresponding fish broths were chemically analyzed.

This is especially true when there are several candidate diagnoses with similar symptoms that might confuse clinic physicians. Therefore, methods for the efficient differential diagnosis can help physicians to implement the most appropriate treatment and achieve the goal of pain reduction for their patients.
