Neonatal epididymo-orchitis (EO) is a rare condition, particularly when caused by S, a pathogen typically associated with gastroenteritis. We present the case of a 15-day-old male who developed right-sided scrotal swelling and erythema. Scrotal ultrasound confirmed EO without signs of torsion or abscess.

Background: The incidence of seroma formation is high following laparoscopic surgery for an inguinal hernia. Literature has shown many intraoperative techniques to reduce post-operative seroma formation. The hypothesis was made that scrotal support may reduce seroma formation following laparoscopic or robotic hernia surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • * Key factors supporting testicular immune privilege include the blood-testis barrier, specialized immune cells, Sertoli cells' immunomodulation, and high steroid hormone levels.
  • * Disruption of testicular immunity by infections or autoimmune reactions can lead to infertility and damage to germ cells, highlighting the need for further research to understand and improve treatments related to male fertility.

Background General practitioners (GPs) often expedite indeterminate scrotal lumps for urological evaluation. While a scrotal examination by a urologist is crucial, ultrasound (US) has become a routine component of clinical assessment regardless of the clinical examination findings and the nature of the symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of clinical examination compared to scrotal ultrasound, even when the suspicion of cancer was low.

  • Prostatic utricle cyst (PUC) is a rare anatomical issue linked to infertility, and accurate diagnosis is essential for effective management.
  • A case report of a 29-year-old male highlighted the successful use of robotic surgery to remove a large PUC, which resolved his obstructive azoospermia and led to successful in vitro fertilization.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery is advantageous due to its precision and lower complication rates, making it a promising treatment for large symptomatic PUCs when fertility is a concern.

Purpose: In this 10-year follow-up study, we evaluated the long-term postoperative results of single-layer modified Kugel (MK) herniorrhaphy without an onlay mesh.

Methods: Patients who underwent anterior modified Kugel herniorrhaphy without an onlay mesh between May 1, 2009, and June 31, 2012, were included in this study. The criterion for onlay mesh omission was that the posterior inguinal hernia defect did not exceed the memory recoil ring of the MK mesh.

  • A case study discusses primary hypogonadism caused by prolonged use of amiodarone, a medication known for multiple side effects.
  • The patient, a 57-year-old man, experienced testicular pain, gynaecomastia, and decreased libido, ultimately diagnosed with hypergonadotropic hypogonadism and confirmed testicular atrophy.
  • The findings emphasize the need for careful monitoring of patients on amiodarone to detect signs of testicular dysfunction early, ensuring appropriate treatment for hypogonadism.

Background Acute scrotum is a medical emergency commonly encountered in clinical practice, particularly in pediatric and adolescent populations. It is characterized by sudden onset of scrotal pain and may involve swelling, redness, or tenderness. The most common etiologies include testicular torsion, epididymo-orchitis, trauma, and, less frequently, tumors.

The Impact of Chemokine-Like Receptor 1 Gene Knockout on Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Epididymo-Orchitis in Mice.

J Interferon Cytokine Res

October 2024

Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Metabolic Health, Center for Energy Metabolism and Reproduction, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shenzhen, China.

This comprehensive study delved into the pivotal function of chemokine-like receptor 1 (CMKLR1) in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-triggered epididymo-orchitis in mice. Upon LPS exposure, wild-type (WT) mice exhibited marked elevations in serum pro-inflammatory markers, including G-CSF, IL-6, and RANTES, along with heightened levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in testicular and epididymal tissues, which accompanied by pronounced structural damage within the testicular tissue and a concurrent decline in serum testosterone, estradiol (E2) levels, and testicular steroid synthetase expression. Remarkably, gene ablation intensified the pro-inflammatory response in the serum (especially IFN-γ), testes, and epididymis of epididymo-orchitis models.

  • Nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA) involves various causes that impact both sperm retrieval success rates (SRR) from micro-TESE procedures and outcomes of subsequent ICSI treatments.
  • A study of 627 patients at CITIC-Xiangya from 2017 to 2022 revealed an overall SRR of 39.4%, with variations based on specific NOA causes, such as a high SRR for cryptorchidism and orchitis compared to idiopathic cases.
  • Both the quality of embryos and the age of female partners significantly influenced clinical pregnancy outcomes, with younger women experiencing better results in terms of successful pregnancies with higher-quality embryos.
