Statistical Methods and Machine Learning Algorithms for Investigating Metabolic Syndrome in Temporomandibular Disorders: A Nationwide Study.

The objective of this study was to analyze the associations between temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) components, consequences, and related conditions. This research analyzed data from the Dental, Oral, Medical Epidemiological (DOME) records-based study which integrated comprehensive socio-demographic, medical, and dental databases from a nationwide sample of dental attendees aged 18-50 years at military dental clinics for 1 year. Statistical and machine learning models were performed with TMDs as the dependent variable.

The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of odontogenic biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) incorporating dentin noncollagenous proteins (DNCPs) on osteogenesis and stability in maxillary sinus augmentation.

Methods: The composition, structure and morphology of the odontogenic BCP were tested by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, and scanning electron microscopy methods.

Angiopoietin-like 4 (ANGPTL4) promotes cancer cell migration through vessels and has been implicated in cancer metastasis. Our previous study identified a robust increase in ANGPTL4 mRNA expression in lung-metastasized tongue cancer (TC) cells. Therefore, the present study investigated the association of ANGPTL4 with lung metastasis and outcomes of patient with TC.

This 4-year cross-sectional study analyzed the records of 1409 individuals who underwent a CBCT at the Oral and Maxillofacial Center at Sheba Medical Center, Israel. Pre-Operative Oral Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients Attending Surgical Removal of Mandibular Third Molar Teeth.

The study aimed to measure the pre-operative oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and to identify patient and teeth pathologies associated with worse OHRQoL among patients attending mandibular third molar tooth extraction. Data were collected preoperatively from 199 patients attending surgical removal of their mandibular third molar. To that end, we measured the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) and analyzed its association with: (1) demographics; (2) health-related behaviors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and dietary habits; (3) Plaque Index (PI); (4) Decay, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT); and (5) clinical characteristics related to third molar extraction, such as the indication for extraction, tooth angulations, and radiographic pathology.

Minor salivary glands: Clinical, histological and immunohistochemical features of common and less common pathologies.

Hundreds of minor salivary glands (MiSGs) are scattered in the oral cavity located at the submucosa layer. Beside their role in the oral cavity lubrication and immunity defence system, MiSGs are beneficial tissue source for diagnosing oral and non-oral related diseases. The advantage of MiSGs as a diagnostic tool reside on their fairly simple excisional procedure on one hand and negligible impact of the normal secretion capability of the salivary gland system on the other hand.

Systematic review of photobiomodulation for the management of oral mucositis in cancer patients and clinical practice guidelines.

Purpose: To systematically review the literature and update the evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for the use of photobiomodulation (PBM), such as laser and other light therapies, for the prevention and/or treatment of oral mucositis (OM).

Methods: A systematic review was conducted by the Mucositis Study Group of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society for Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) using PubMed and Web of Science. We followed the MASCC methods for systematic review and guidelines development.

Clarithromycin as the empiric antibiotic therapy for medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in multiple myeloma patients.

About half of individuals diagnosed with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) are multiple myeloma (MM) patients, and most are treated using antibiotics for long-term courses. The penicillin group is recommended as the empiric drug of choice, and quinolones, metronidazole, clindamycin, doxycycline, and erythromycin as alternatives. This paper suggests the macrolide clarithromycin as the empiric antibiotic therapy of MRONJ in MM patients because of its better pharmacologic properties in comparison to erythromycin, and the beneficial effect of this agent in MM.

Biomarker MicroRNAs for Diagnosis of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Identified Based on Gene Expression Data and MicroRNA-mRNA Network Analysis.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most malignant tumors with high mortality rate worldwide. Biomarker discovery is critical for early diagnosis and precision treatment of this disease. MicroRNAs are small noncoding RNA molecules which often regulate essential biological processes and are good candidates for biomarkers.

Dental anxiety and oral health-related quality of life in aggressive periodontitis patients.

Objectives: To measure dental anxiety levels and oral health-related qualities of life (OHRQoL) in patients with aggressive periodontitis (AgP) compared to controls and analyze their association with various demographic and clinical parameters.

Methods: Sixty consecutive patients with AgP were compared to 80 age- and sex-matched controls with no known history of periodontal disease. Maxillary deformity following CPAP treatment in myasthenia gravis.

Objective: Patients with Myasthenia gravis (MG) are characterized by muscle weakness that may cause obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). The use of a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) device is often needed in order to maintain free breathing during the night and sometimes even during the day.

Clinical Presentation: A 29-year-old MG patient is presented who used a CPAP continuously since the age of 12.

Background: International social networking is eminent in medical practice, mainly in sharing knowledge and mutual inspiring and in social and professional bonding. Since 2006, the International Medical Course is taking place in Commander Branch at the Military Medicine Academy of the Medical Corps, Israeli Defense Forces; in which medical officers from other military forces are participating along with Israeli officers. One of the course's objectives is international networking.
