Near field communication tag to provide a unique identification aid for custom ocular prostheses.

This technique describes a smartphone-enabled near field communication tag used as an identification aid for a custom ocular prosthesis for a pediatric patient. Near field communication tags are straightforward to read, can be readily connected to smartphone devices without the need for specialized equipment, store data in a variety of ways, are inexpensive, exceptionally thin, and flexible, and tolerate resin polymerization temperatures, making them suitable as an identification aid for an ocular prosthesis.

Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) are locally aggressive cysts that exhibit typical histopathological features and have a propensity for recurrence. Though histological variations are observed in OKCs, hard tissue formation and metaplastic changes are rare, and the underlying pathogenesis is not well understood. Purpose: To evaluate the quantitative (cephalometric) aspects of the craniofacial deformities in transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia (TDT) patients.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-five TDT patients receiving a regular blood transfusion in the Department of Pediatrics of age group 5 to 8 years (younger) and 15 years and above (older) were compared with control groups of similar age using cephalograms (lateral and posterior-anterior view).

Results And Observation: The prevalence of skeletal class II tendency is higher in thalassemic patients that do not improve with age.

Dental tissue is emerging as a promising source of stem cells especially in nerve regeneration mainly due to their neural origin and ease of harvest. We isolated dental stem cells from three sources, namely, dental pulp (DPSCs), dental follicle (DFSCs), and apical papilla (SCAP), and explored the efficacy of each towards neural differentiation in comparison to bone marrow-derived stem cells. This case report presented a karyotype and pedigree analysis of a case with unusual combination of dental anomalies: Generalized short roots, talon cusps, dens invagination, low alveolar bone heights, very prominent cusp of carabelli and protostylid on first permanent molars, taurodontism of second permanent molars, rotated, missing and impacted teeth. None of the anomalies alone are rare. However, until date, nonsyndromic pandental anomalies that are affecting entire dentition with detailed karyotype, pedigree and cone-beam computerized tomography analysis have not been reported.
