Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a leading cause of visual impairment and irreversible blindness worldwide. High-resolution imaging techniques have been pivotal in characterizing the morphological alterations in the retina and in identifying structural biomarkers with prognostic significance. In clinical practice, visual function is primarily assessed through visual acuity testing, which, however, does not completely reflect the functional deficits experienced by patients.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial, chronic, and often relapsing condition with a significant impact on patient quality of life (QoL). Symptoms such as ocular discomfort and visual disturbances are diverse and frequently misaligned with objective clinical signs, complicating diagnosis and management. DED not only interferes with daily activities like reading, driving, and computer use but also imposes a substantial economic burden due to direct healthcare costs and reduced work productivity.

Purpose: This literature review synthetizes current evidence on the timing and efficacy of dexamethasone intravitreal injections for diabetic macular edema (DME) in patients undergoing cataract surgery, particularly phacoemulsification, to determine the optimal timing for improved outcome.
Methods: A systematic review of the literature was conducted across key databases to identify peer-reviewed studies, clinical trials, and meta-analyses addressing dexamethasone injections administered pre-, intra-, and post-operatively for DME in the context of cataract surgery. Studies were selected based on relevance to timing, visual outcomes, and inflammation control, with a focus on comparative efficacy.

: We evaluated the 3-year effectiveness and safety of XEN45, combined or not with phacoemulsification, in patients from the Italian XEN-Glaucoma Treatment Registry. : Data from glaucoma patients who underwent XEN45 alone or combined with phacoemulsification were analyzed. Changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) and the number of ocular hypotensive medications (OHMs) were tested with repeated measures ANOVA in last observation carried forward (LOCF) and per-protocol (PP) analyses.

Reconstructing the orbit following complex craniofacial fractures presents significant challenges. Throughout the years, several materials have been used for orbital reconstruction, taking into account factors such as their durability, compatibility with living tissue, cost efficiency, safety, and capacity to be adjusted during surgery. Nevertheless, a consensus has not yet been reached on the optimal material for orbital restoration.

Objectives: To report the occurrence of the regression of the flow signal from the neovascular network in macular neovascularizations (MNVs), developing in the context of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), treated with faricimab in a treat-and-extend regimen.
Methods: Eyes affected by AMD-related MNV and treated with faricimab intravitreal injections in a treat-and-extend (TE) regimen were consecutively retrospectively screened in five specialized retina centers. Changes in neovascular network characteristics during the course of the treatment were analyzed.

Retinal artery occlusion (RAO) is an emergency condition causing acute retinal ischemia and is considered an equivalent of ischemic stroke. The occurrence of an episode of RAO is associated with significant impairment of visual functions and correlates with an increased risk of future vascular events. Although RAO requires immediate diagnosis and treatment, there are currently no clear guidelines specifying optimal management.

Methylmalonic aciduria and homocystinuria, CblC type, is an inborn error of intracellular vitamin B12 (cobalamin) metabolism caused, in the majority of cases, by mutations in the gene. Five Cypriot patients (four males and one female) were diagnosed with a CblC defect. Age at diagnosis ranged from 10 days to 9 months.

Purpose: To manage ocular surface complications and recover conjunctival and corneal epithelia after unilateral severe chemical burn.
Methods: We performed simple conjunctival epithelial transplantation (SCET) to obtain renewal of fornix and bulbar-tarsal conjunctiva epithelium, followed by simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET) to recover limbal function and epithelial corneal surface. Slit-lamp examination, fluorescein staining, in vivo confocal microscopy, Kheirkhah grading system for symblepharon severity, Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale, and best-corrected visual acuity were assessed before surgery, at 1 to 3 months after SCET and SLET, and thereafter at 6 to 12 to 36 months.

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a microvascular complication of diabetes in which neurodegeneration has been recently identified as a driving force. In the last years, mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) and neurotrophins like Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), have garnered significant attention as innovative therapeutic approaches targeting DR-associated neurodegeneration. However, delivering neurotrophic factors directly in the eye remains a challenge.
