Although significant progress in the treatment of breast cancer has been achieved, toxic therapies would not be required if breast cancer could be prevented from developing in the first place. While breast cancer prevention is difficult to study in humans due to long disease latency and stochastic cancer development, transgenic mouse models with 100% incidence and defined mammary tumor onset, provide excellent models for tumor prevention studies. In this study, we used Neu/Erbb2 transgenic mice (MTB-TAN) as a model of human HER2 breast cancer to investigate whether a family of microRNAs, known as the miR-200 family, can prevent mammary tumor development.

The kinetics of intravenous (IV) fluid therapy and how it affects the movement of fluids within humans and animals is an ongoing research topic. Clinical researchers have in the past used a mathematical model adopted from pharmacokinetics that attempts to mimic these kinetics. This linear model is based on the ideas that the body tries to maintain fluid levels in various compartments at some baseline targets and that fluid movement between compartments is driven by differences between the actual volumes and the targets.

Traditional methods for monitoring pathogens in environmental waters have numerous drawbacks. Sampling approaches that are low-cost and time efficient that can capture temporal variation in microbial contamination are needed. Passive sampling of aquatic environments has shown promise as an alternative water monitoring technique for waterborne pathogens and microbial contaminants.

The main goals of this study were to document and compare the normal ranges of testicular haemodynamic parameters in pre- (aged 8-12 months; n = 4) and postpubertal (aged 24-259 months; n = 16) Miranda donkeys in the breeding season, and to correlate animal biometric data and testicular Doppler indices with basic semen quality parameters of sexually mature jacks. Colour and pulsed-Doppler ultrasonography were employed to assess blood flow in the left and right distal supratesticular artery (DsTA) and their marginal branches (marginal arteries-MA). Peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV), pulsatility index (PI) and resistive index (RI) were evaluated in both blood vessels, and TAMV (time-averaged mean velocity), TABF (total arterial blood flow) and TABF rate (TABF-R) were calculated for MA.

Feline respiratory disease complex (FRDC) is a highly prevalent syndrome in cats that often result in fatal outcomes. FRDC etiology is complex, and often, multiple viral and bacterial pathogens are simultaneously associated with disease causation. There is limited information about the role of co-infections in pathogenesis and the current prevalence of pathogens in North America.

In humans and mice, the induction of interleukin (IL)-17 expression enhances epithelial barrier integrity through the secretion of antimicrobial peptides (AMP), thereby improving antibacterial defense. However, it is unclear whether IL-17 has similar antibacterial effects in chickens by modulating the expression of AMPs, such as avian beta-defensins (also known as gallinacins) and cathelicidins. This study evaluated the in vivo effects of inoculating 20-day-old broiler chickens with two doses of a plasmid encoding chicken IL-17 (pCDNA3.

Background: 3-caffeoylquinic acid (3-CQA), a member of the chlorogenic acid family, possesses diverse pharmacological properties, such as scavenging, antioxidant, and antiapoptotic activity, rendering substantial value to alimentary consumables and therapeutic substances. However, the pervasiveness of non-standard practices, notably the misuse and abuse of indigenous botanicals, coupled with the inherent susceptibility of 3-CQA to degradation under light and heat exposure, engenders discernible disparateness in the quality profiles of the same kinds of herbs. Consequently, precise quantification of 3-CQA becomes imperative.
