Clinical Applicability of 2-Field High-Resolution and Extended HLA-Allele Typing in Deceased Donor Kidney Allocation.

HLA-compatibility remains an important triage test for deceased donor kidney allocation. Low-intermediate resolution donor HLA-typing is typically available at allocation, but its accuracy in assigning pre-transplant donor-specific anti-HLA antibody (DSA) and HLA mismatches compared to 2-field high-resolution typing is poorly characterised. Consecutive deceased donor/recipient pairs from a single centre between 2016 and 2020 were included.

Adverse Ocular Impact and Emerging Therapeutic Potential of Cannabis and Cannabinoids: A Narrative Review.

Cannabis is the most used drug worldwide with an estimated 219 million users. This narrative review aims to explore the adverse effects and therapeutic applications of cannabis and cannabinoids on the eye, given its growing clinical and non-clinical uses. The current literature reports several adverse ocular effects of cannabis and cannabinoids, including eyelid tremor, ptosis, reduced corneal endothelial cell density, dry eyes, red eyes, and neuro-retinal dysfunction.

Benchmarking of Hi-C tools for scaffolding plant genomes obtained from PacBio HiFi and ONT reads.

The implementation of Hi-C reads in the genome assembly process allows the ordering of large regions of the genome in scaffolds and the generation of chromosome-level assemblies. Several bioinformatics tools have been developed for genome scaffolding with Hi-C, and each tool has advantages and disadvantages that need to be carefully evaluated before their adoption. We generated two assemblies of obtained from the same raw PacBio HiFi and Oxford Nanopore Technologies data.

Native RNA nanopore sequencing reveals antibiotic-induced loss of rRNA modifications in the A- and P-sites.

The biological relevance and dynamics of mRNA modifications have been extensively studied; however, whether rRNA modifications are dynamically regulated, and under which conditions, remains unclear. Here, we systematically characterize bacterial rRNA modifications upon exposure to diverse antibiotics using native RNA nanopore sequencing. To identify significant rRNA modification changes, we develop NanoConsensus, a novel pipeline that is robust across RNA modification types, stoichiometries and coverage, with very low false positive rates, outperforming all individual algorithms tested.

Nanopore sequencing of intact aminoacylated tRNAs.

Transfer RNAs (tRNA) are decorated during biogenesis with a variety of modifications that modulate their stability, aminoacylation, and decoding potential during translation. The complex landscape of tRNA modification presents significant analysis challenges and to date no single approach enables the simultaneous measurement of important but disparate chemical properties of individual, mature tRNA molecules. We developed a new, integrated approach to analyze the sequence, modification, and aminoacylation state of tRNA molecules in a high throughput nanopore sequencing experiment, leveraging a chemical ligation that embeds the charged amino acid in an adapted tRNA molecule.

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is a major public health issue, with a growing prevalence due to the aging population and the rise in risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. Managing PAD involves a multidisciplinary approach, with the primary care physician playing a crucial role in early screening. This article compiles the latest data from 2024 and current practices for the management of this disease.

[Urinary tract infections in adults : a guideline-based management].

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are frequent, especially in women. The increase in antibiotic resistance and changing epidemiological profiles require the recommendations to be regularly updated. This article reviews current guidelines for the management of uncomplicated and recurrent UTIs, taking into account recommendations from the European Association of Urology (EAU), the Association Française d'Urologie (AFU) and the American Association of Urology (AUA).

[Endoscopic management of upper urinary tract stones].

The treatment of upper urinary tract stones is one of the main urological activities. Endoscopic surgical techniques, namely semirigid or flexible ureteroscopy (URS) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), represent a major therapeutic modality, alternatively to chemolysis, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy and open, laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery. In this article, the specificities of these endoscopic techniques, their clinical performances, as well as their development following recent technological advances are discussed.

[Active surveillance of small renal masses].

Small renal masses (SRMs), which are tumors less than 4 cm in diameter, are increasingly discovered incidentally due to the rise in diagnostic imaging. Although many of these masses are benign, managing SRMs remains challenging. Active surveillance (AS) offers a viable alternative to surgery, particularly for patients with high surgical risks or limited life expectancy.

[Penile cancer : a comprehensive review of diagnostics and treatment approaches].

Penile cancer is a rare but serious disease, with major consequences for patients' quality of life. Although it accounts for less than 1 % of male cancers in the Western world, its incidence is higher in certain regions of the world. His staging, particularly the evaluation of lymph nodes according to the TNM system, is crucial in determining prognosis and guiding treatment.

[Urological cancers in Geneva : epidemiology and diagnosis, where do we stand?].

Urological cancers are substantial burden for public health worldwide, due to their considerable incidence, morbidity and mortality. The cornerstone of an effective disease management is an appropriate diagnostic strategy and early detection. Based on the data from the population-based Geneva cancer registry, this article aimed to report epidemiological trends in urological cancers in Geneva from the last 26 years.

Hybrid sequencing for detailed genetic characterization of human adenoviruses.
