In type 2 diabetes, the launch of gliflozins (or SGLT2i), like each new therapeutic class, is generating a great deal of hope and is being heavily marketed. The pivotal studies show a beneficial effect on the risk of hospitalization for heart failure and, to a lesser extent, on the decline in renal function. The impact on physiological factors (weight, glycated hemoglobin, blood pressure) is modest, and the side-effect profile is relatively heavy, particularly in the elderly (frequent urogenital infections, ketoacidosis, etc.

Tumor lysis syndrome is a metabolic emergency resulting from a massive destruction of cancer cells. This is often associated with hematological malignancies, such as non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and acute leukemia, but the incidence tends to increase for solid tumors with the development of oncological treatments. Due to a poor prognosis, it is essential to recognize this syndrome early.

Systemic thrombolysis is the first-line treatment for patients with high-risk pulmonary embolism or with haemodynamic deterioration on anticoagulation alone; however, it is associated with a high bleeding risk. Mechanical thrombectomy may significantly reduce right ventricular dysfunction without exposing the patient to systemic bleeding complications. No randomized trials comparing the two treatments are available to date.

When a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is suspected, management should begin with a well-defined diagnostic approach based on clinical evaluation and pre-test probability, D-dimer testing, and venous ultrasound. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, it is important to differentiate between proximal and distal DVT, as their treatment strategies differs. While numerous robust studies with a high level of evidence are available for proximal DVT, the optimal management of distal DVT remains debated.

HLA-compatibility remains an important triage test for deceased donor kidney allocation. Low-intermediate resolution donor HLA-typing is typically available at allocation, but its accuracy in assigning pre-transplant donor-specific anti-HLA antibody (DSA) and HLA mismatches compared to 2-field high-resolution typing is poorly characterised. Consecutive deceased donor/recipient pairs from a single centre between 2016 and 2020 were included.
