A density functional theory framework is developed to study electronic excited states affected by an anisotropic dielectric environment. In particular, an anisotropic dielectric screened range-separated hybrid (SRSH[r]) functional is defined and combined with an anisotropic polarizable continuum model (PCM) implemented through a generalized Poisson equation solver. We develop the SRSH-PCM(r) approach and use it to quantify the effect of anisotropy on an excited charge transfer (CT) state energy.

The new dibenzoazepine-substituted triazole hybrids (-) were designed by molecular hybridization approach and synthesized utilizing the Cu(I)-catalyzed click reaction. The hybrid structures (-) were obtained in high yields (74-98%) with a simple two-step synthesis strategy and fully characterized. These compounds were assessed for their influence on various metabolic enzymes including human carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes (hCA I and hCA II), acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE).

Article Synopsis
  • Early identification of heart issues and disease severity in multisystem inflammatory syndrome is crucial for effective management, which this study investigates through Pentraxin-3 levels.
  • The research involved 56 patients and 26 healthy controls, finding significantly higher Pentraxin-3 levels in patients, especially those with cardiac involvement or severe disease.
  • Elevated Pentraxin-3 may serve as a predictor for clinical outcomes in these patients, but further studies are required for confirmation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the occurrence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation in immunocompetent critically ill patients who have bacterial infections in their respiratory tract.
  • Out of 34 patients, 79.4% experienced CMV reactivation, particularly those with ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and sepsis, although the differences in CMV DNA levels weren't statistically significant.
  • The findings suggest that CMV reactivation is linked to longer hospital stays and extended mechanical ventilation but does not correlate with increased mortality rates.

Modulation of the ubiquitin-proteasome system by curcumin: Therapeutic implications in cancer.

Pathol Res Pract

January 2025

Center for Global Health Research, Saveetha Medical College and Hospitals, Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Saveetha University, Chennai, India; Biotechnology Research Center, Pharmaceutical Technology Institute, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran; Applied Biomedical Research Center, Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran. Electronic address:

By the ubiquitin-proteasomes, cellular proteins are structurally degraded and turnover. Many essential functions and regulations of cells are regulated and controlled by these proteins. Recent studies indicated that many cancer types have been associated with aberrations in the ubiquitination pathway, which involves three enzymatic steps.

Article Synopsis
  • A novel differential pulse voltammetric (DPV) method is introduced for the sensitive detection of fenhexamid (FHX) using a disposable pencil graphite electrode (PGE), which is both affordable and effective.
  • The study examines the oxidation and reduction behavior of FHX at different pH levels, revealing specific voltage peaks for each process and establishing linear detection ranges for various concentrations of FHX.
  • The methodology shows high selectivity with minimal interference from other compounds, and recovery tests demonstrate its accuracy for analyzing FHX in environmental samples like water and soil.

: The design of alternative antipathogenic sprays has recently attracted much attention due to the limitations of existing formulations, such as toxicity and low and narrow efficacy. Polyethyleneimine (PEI) is a great antimicrobial polymer against a wide range of pathogens, but toxicity limits its use. Here, betainized PEI (B-PEI) was synthesized to decrease the toxicity of PEI and protonated with citric acid (CA), boric acid (BA), and HCl to improve antimicrobial activity.
