This study aims to develop a stable and efficient magnetic nanocomposite hydrogel (MNCH) for selective removal of methylene blue (MB) and crystal violet (CV). MNCHs with different FeO contents (0-9 wt%) were synthesized following graft co-polymerization method using sodium alginate, acrylamide, itaconic acid, ammonium persulfate and N,N-methylene bisacrylamide. Among them, MNCH, with 5 wt% FeO, showed highest removal efficiency (>95 %).

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines the effectiveness of six different therapies for treating relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) over 5 years, using a large dataset from 74 centers across 35 countries.
  • Researchers found that natalizumab and fingolimod were more effective in reducing relapses and worsening disability compared to other therapies like dimethyl fumarate, teriflunomide, glatiramer acetate, and interferon beta.
  • The findings highlight the potential of marginal structural models (MSMs) to simulate clinical trials and compare various treatment outcomes in real-world patient populations.

Aurora Kinase A (AURKA) is an oncogenic kinase with major roles in mitosis, but also exerts cell cycle- and kinase-independent functions linked to cancer. Therefore, control of its expression, as well as its activity, is crucial. A short and a long 3'UTR isoform exist for AURKA mRNA, resulting from alternative polyadenylation (APA).

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares disability progression in primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS) and secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS), revealing that SPMS has a later onset and slower disability accrual compared to PPMS.* -
  • Analysis utilized data from the MSBase cohort, adjusting for factors like age, sex, and drug therapies, and included 1,872 PPMS patients and 2,575 SPMS patients.* -
  • Findings suggest that although SPMS patients start with greater baseline disability, their slower progression may lead to similar disability levels over time, indicating the need for careful consideration when combining these groups in clinical trials.*

Background: Over the decades, several natural history studies on patients with primary (PPMS) or secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (SPMS) were reported from international registries. In PPMS, a consistent heterogeneity on long-term disability trajectories was demonstrated. The aim of this study was to identify subgroups of patients with SPMS with similar longitudinal trajectories of disability over time.

Ureteral reimplantation aligned laparoscopically: Pneumovesicoscopic Politano-Leadbetter reimplantation in children.

J Pediatr Urol

June 2021

Ondokuz Mayıs University, School of Medicine, Department of Pediatric Surgery, Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Kurupelit Kampüsü, Atakum, Samsun, 55270, Turkey. Electronic address:

Introduction: Ureteroneocsytostomy is a well-established procedure for correction of certain ureterovesical conditions like vesicoureteral reflux and ureterevesical obstruction. Amazing developments in technology paved the way for minimally invasive surgery and conventional procedures are increasingly being performed minimal invasively during the recent decades. Although Politano-Leadbetter ureteroneocystostomy is an anatomical repair, lost its popularity against Cohen's technique as it is more challenging to perform and requires extravesical dissection which may increase the complication rates.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) includes a group of disorders characterized by susceptibility to bone fractures with different severities. The increasing number of genes that may underlie the disorder, along with the broad phenotypic spectrum that overlaps with other skeletal diseases, provided a compelling case for the use of high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technology as an aid to OI diagnoses. The aim of this analysis was to present the data from our 5-year targeted HTS results, that includes the reporting of 9 novel and 24 known mutations, found in OI patients, from 5 different regions of Turkey.

Background: The abundance of easy and accessible information and the rapid development of social networking sites (SNSs) have proven that the world is small and within reach. The great implication of this interconnectivity is attributable to the change in the learning and sharing environment, which for the most part is something that classrooms are lacking. Considering the potential implications of SNSs in nursing education reveals the benefits of SNSs in allowing students to communicate and interact with a wider audience and beyond the classroom.
