More than 4,000 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) variants have been identified in the human gene, however only a few have been studied in the context of protein function. The tandem zinc finger domain of ZFP36L2, an RNA binding protein, is the functional domain that binds to its target mRNAs. This protein/RNA interaction triggers mRNA degradation, controlling gene expression.

Background: The SIPPET randomized clinical trial showed that in previously untreated patients (PUPs) with severe hemophilia A, treatment with plasma-derived factor (F)VIII (pdFVIII) within the first 50 exposure days (EDs) was associated with a lower cumulative incidence of inhibitors than with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII). Switching to rFVIII beyond 50 EDs with pdFVIII is a treatment often implemented by many centers. The question is whether or not this switch may induce a risk of inhibitor development.

  • Fatigue, depression, and sleep issues are common symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) and significantly affect their quality of life, which was the focus of this study.
  • The study included 178 PwMS and used various scales to assess fatigue, sleep quality, depression, and overall quality of life, analyzing the relationships between these factors.
  • Results indicated that higher depression scores led to poorer sleep quality and greater fatigue, both of which negatively impacted physical and mental health aspects of quality of life in PwMS.

Effects of different toothpastes against erosive tooth wear of enamel and dentine in vitro.

BMC Oral Health

December 2024

Faculty of Dentistry, Department of Restorative Dentistry, Ondokuz Mayıs University, Samsun, Turkey.

Background: The increase in the prevalence of erosion lesions worldwide has led researchers to develop effective toothpastes with different ingredients to prevent erosion that can protect the tooth surface against acid attacks. There remains a lack of consensus in the literature regarding which toothpaste formulation exhibits the most effective preventive action against erosive tooth wear, highlighting the necessity for further investigation in this field. This study aimed to evaluate the preventive effect of brushing with toothpastes with different ingredients on enamel and dentine erosion.

  • Slow-release GnRH agonist implants are used in male dogs for contraception, and their effects are reversible, although safety concerns exist.
  • A study was conducted to investigate the impact of these implants on testicular stress and androgen receptor signaling in dogs after the implants were removed, comparing them to untreated controls.
  • Results showed both upregulation and downregulation of various proteins related to stress response and androgen receptors, indicating that GnRH implants do not increase cellular stress compared to natural breeding cycles, but more research is needed on hypoxic conditions.
