Doxorubicin (DOX) and lapatinib (LAP) have been reported to cause liver toxicity. The roles of mitochondrial and cellular responses in DOX and LAP mediated-hepatotoxicity have not been investigated with or without quercetin (QUE) in HepG2 cells sensitive to mitochondrial damage (high-glucose or galactose media) in addition to studies. Our results revealed that cytosolic pathways might play role a in DOX-induced cytotoxicity rather than mitochondria.

Effects of Heavy Metal Stress on Seedling Growth and Antioxidant System in Sorghum (Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench).

Protein J

February 2025

Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Ondokuz Mayıs University, 55139, Samsun, Turkey.

Factors that impede the normal growth and development of plants are termed 'stress factors' and result in yield loss. Exposure to elevated concentrations of heavy metals has been demonstrated to induce the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can affect physiological and biochemical processes. The present study investigated the effects of two common heavy metals (Hg and Cd) on specific physiological and biochemical parameters of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the thickness and stiffness of the Achilles tendon in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism and compare these findings with those of healthy individuals.

Methods: Bilateral Achilles tendons of 28 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism and 28 healthy controls were evaluated using ultrasound (US) and shear wave elastography (SWE). Tendon thickness was measured with gray-scale US, while stiffness was assessed using SWE, expressed as shear wave velocity (SWV) in meters per second.

Soil carbon sequestration and its monitoring is important to improve climate resilience and mitigate global warming. According to the European Environment Agency (EEA), soils in Europe are losing carbon that could hamper achieving the EU climate targets. Hence, it is necessary to explore the dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) storage in different ecosystems so that the EU policymakers can observe the progress towards achieving EU Green Deal objectives.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of cumulative doses of Zn (by exposing samples to 1 µM, 10 µM, and 100 µM ZnCl) on myocardial papillary muscle contractions isolated from rat hearts in vitro and the roles of the zinc finger protein ZEB1 in this effect. In these preparations, 100 µM ZnCl application in different protocols caused a decrease in contraction force and an increase in contraction time in both frequency-dependent parameters and pre-expected stimuli when compared to the control group. Our study data show that Ca homeostasis is closely related to increasing Zn doses (especially at 100 µM ZnCl dose).

Foetal exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) may cause marked neurocognitive impairment, although the mechanisms involved are still unclear. EMF induces region-specific neuronal and astroglial death in the rat hippocampus. Poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 (PARP-1) regulates necrosis, apoptosis and other cellular processes occurring following injury.
