The correlation between clinical outcomes and preoperative/postoperative measures of the lateral center-edge angle (LCEA) will help establish the cutoff values for this measurement and determine whether to obtain it from the lateral acetabular rim (LCEAR) or the lateral end of the sourcil (LCEAS). The hypothesis was that the LCEAS would be more sensitive than the LCEAR. An upper cutoff value of LCEA could predict better functional outcomes in FAI patients.

Background: This study aimed to establish risk groups on the basis of CPS-EG scores, independent of pCR status, in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) to identify the prognostic impact of the CPS-EG score.

Methods: Patient characteristics included age, menopausal status, clinical stage, pathological stage, estrogen receptor (ER) expression, nuclear grade, Ki-67 proliferation index, residual cancer burden (RCB) score, HER2 status, and other tumor characteristics. The CPS-EG scoring system included clinical stage, pathological stage, ER status, and grade.

Background/aim: Rheumatoid factor (RF) and anticitrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) are specific for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) diagnosis. However, they could be positive in other diseases and even in healthy populations. The aim was to investigate the prevalence of positive RF and anti-CCP antibodies in persons admitted to hospital for any reason and on a national scale.

Is It Possible to Prevent Nontherapeutic Laparotomies in Breast Cancer Patients With Isolated Adnexal Masses?

Am Surg

July 2024

Department of Gynecologic Oncology, Dr. Abdurrahman Yurtaslan Ankara Oncology Research and Training Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, University of Health Sciences, Ankara, Turkey.

The risk of ovarian malignancy is increasing in patients with a history of breast cancer. Thus, well-defined predictors of ovarian malignancy should be identified to determine surgical or conservative management of adnexal masses in women with breast cancer. This study aimed to clarify the predictors of malignant ovarian tumors in patients with breast cancer with an isolated adnexal mass.

Purpose: To evaluate whether unrepaired interportal capsulotomy presents with capsular defect on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) 5 years after primary hip arthroscopy and to determine its effect on functional results and findings of osteoarthritis on radiographs or MRI scans.

Methods: Patients with femoroacetabular impingement (without arthritis or dysplasia) were retrospectively reviewed after arthroscopic labral repair or debridement and femoroplasty through interportal capsulotomy without closure. Patients were assessed preoperatively and at a minimum of 5 years postoperatively using patient-reported outcomes (Hip Outcome Score-Activities of Daily Living scale, modified Harris Hip Score, and visual analog scale pain score), radiographic measures, and MRI scans.

This study aims to investigate the clinical course and potential drug interactions of breast cancer patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). Ten patients diagnosed with MS and breast cancer, who were followed up and treated in the authors' centre between January 2000 and December 2020, were retrospectively scanned from the Hospital's electronic registry system and included in the study. The patients' age, gender, history of MS diagnosis, drugs used, date of breast cancer diagnosis, stage at diagnosis, pathological features, treatment information, surgery types, recurrence or metastasis history and regions, and side effects observed during anticancer treatment were recorded.

The prognosis of patients with advanced HCC can vary widely depending on factors such as the stage of the cancer, the patient's overall health, and treatment regimens. This study aimed to investigate survival outcomes and associated factors in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In this retrospective study, data from 23 medical oncology clinics were analyzed.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a multisystem disease and is significantly associated with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. NAFLD has become the most prevalent chronic liver disease in Western countries, and the proportion of NAFLD-related cirrhosis among patients on liver transplantation waiting lists has increased. In light of the accumulated data about NAFLD, and to provide a common approach with multi-disciplines dealing with the subject, it has become necessary to create new guidance for diagnosing and treating NAFLD.

Purpose: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has a critical role in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and intravitreal injection of anti-VEGF drugs is the mainstay of neovascular AMD treatment. Blood neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is shown to be a biomarker of inflammation in AMD. We aimed to investigate the role of NLR in predicting favorable short-term anti-VEGF treatment results in neovascular AMD patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Cyclin-dependent kinase 4/6 inhibitors are new drugs that help treat certain types of metastatic breast cancer and can improve patient outcomes.
  • A 56-year-old woman with breast cancer was treated with a drug called ribociclib and developed light patches on her skin (like vitiligo) after six treatment cycles.
  • Although the skin changes aren't dangerous, they can be upsetting and make it harder for the patient to stick to her treatment plan.

Introduction: Cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors are the new generation drugs that have been started to be used in our clinical practice recently. These drugs have been shown to have better progression-free survival compared to standard therapy in patients with hormone receptor-positive (HR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2)-negative breast cancer. The most common side effects of CDK 4-6 inhibitors are neutropenia, nausea, leukopenia, fatigue, and diarrhea.
