Purpose: To evaluate the ability of acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI) elastography in differentiating benign from malignant etiologies of splenomegaly based on differences in splenic stiffness.
Materials And Methods: Between September 2020 and November 2022, we evaluated 40 patients with splenomegaly-defined by a splenic long axis greater than 13 cm and/or a short axis greater than 6 cm, without visible focal or infiltrative mass lesions-using abdominal ultrasound at our university hospital. Each patient also underwent a standardized ARFI elastographic assessment of the enlarged spleen, with data collected prospectively.

Background: Automation in radiotherapy presents a promising solution to the increasing cancer burden and workforce shortages. However, existing automated methods for breast radiotherapy lack a comprehensive, end-to-end solution that meets varying standards of care.
Purpose: This study aims to develop a complete portfolio of automated radiotherapy treatment planning for intact breasts, tailored to individual patient factors, clinical approaches, and available resources.

Dental magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has long been perceived as overly complex, costly, and limited in availability. Despite the numerous advantages of this radiation-free, non-invasive procedure for soft tissue diagnostics in the head and neck region, its imaging capabilities for hard tissue, such as bones and teeth, have thus far remained limited in comparison to conventional X-ray technology. In recent years, however, technological advances have led to a notable enhancement in the image quality and the range of applications of dental MRI.

Background: The OPERA trial has shown that a contact X-ray brachytherapy 50 kV (CXB) boost with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NCRT) can increase organ preservation (OP) rate for early rectal adenocarcinoma (ADK) of low-mid rectum. We report the results after 5 years of follow-up.
Patients And Methods: OPERA was a multicentre, phase III trial that included operable patients (pts), with cT2-cT3b low-mid rectal ADK, tumours <5 cm, cN0 or cN1 <8 mm.

Leadership as a key building block of a health system plays a crucial role in achieving high performance and helps deliver change and shape the policy agenda and its implementation. Echoing the emerging need for effective leaders in Oncology, the "Improving Cancer Outcomes and Leadership Course" was developed jointly by the European School of Oncology (ESO), the European Cancer Organization (ECO) and Sharing Progress in Cancer Care (SPCC). The course was offered as a hybrid event online and in Warsaw in June 2022.

Cervical lymphadenopathy can indicate a range of diseases, including infections, inflammation, and neoplastic processes. Accurate diagnosis is crucial for identifying the underlying cause and determining appropriate treatment. Diagnostic procedures include clinical examination, ultrasound, fine needle aspiration, biopsy, and imaging techniques.

Background: Switzerland is one of the few remaining European countries without a uniform national breast cancer screening program. Most Swiss cantons have initiated mammography screening programs, with the notable exceptions of the cantons of central Switzerland. The aim of this study is to compare the TNM (tumor-node-metastasis) status in woman diagnosed with screen- and non-screen-detected breast cancers.

Background: Major hepatectomy in perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) patients with a small future liver remnant (FLR) risks posthepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). This study examines combined portal and hepatic vein embolisation (PVE/HVE) to increase preoperative FLR volume and potentially decrease PHLF rates.
Methods: In this retrospective, multicentre, observational study, data was collected from centres affiliated with the DRAGON Trials Collaborative and the EuroLVD registry.

Background: Sleeve lobectomy (SL) and extended SL (ESL), which aim to preserve pulmonary function and enhance the quality of life of patients while ensuring oncological outcomes, are valuable surgical options for the treatment of centrally located non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This study aimed to compare perioperative adverse events and long-term survival between SL and ESL in NSCLC patients, providing a comprehensive review of surgical outcomes, complications, and survival to assess the roles of SL and ESL in thoracic oncology.
Methods: This single-center retrospective study assessed the outcomes of NSCLC patients who underwent SL or ESL from June 2014 to January 2022.

BRCA1 and BRCA2 are tumor suppressor genes that have been linked to inherited susceptibility of breast cancer. Germline BRCA1/2 pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants (gBRCAm) are clinically relevant for treatment selection in breast cancer because they confer sensitivity to poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors. BRCA1/2 mutation status may also impact decisions on other systemic therapies, risk-reducing measures, and choice of surgery.

Radiology reports contain crucial patient information, in addition to images, that can be automatically extracted for secondary uses such as clinical support and research for diagnosis. We tested several classifiers to classify 1,218 breast MRI reports in French from two Swiss clinical centers. Logistic regression performed better for both internal (accuracy > 0.

Background: Patients with bone metastases from solid tumors often have additional treatment with bone targeted agents (BTAs) to avoid symptomatic skeletal events (SSEs) such as clinically significant pathological fracture leading toradiation therapy or surgery to the bone, spinal cord compression, or hypercalcemia. The absolute value of BTA treatment in the era of immunotherapy (IO) is unknown.
Methods: Patients with bone metastases treated with immunotherapy within the Alpine Tumor Immunology Registry were compared based on whether they received an additional BTA such as denosumab or zoledronic acid.

The manifestation of benign hematological infiltration in the liver is a challenge due to their rare occurrence and therefore, limited awareness and the general need for biopsy and histological confirmation. Owing to the rarity of these lesions, there are limited data concerning their appearance on ultrasound and, specifically, contrast-enhanced ultrasound. In a series of papers, we have compiled the US and CEUS characteristics of rare FLL, where there are few reports and images available, in order to build up a library of these cases.

Accurate information about locoregional treatments in breast cancer neoadjuvant systemic therapy (NST) trials is vital to support surgical decision-making and allow meaningful interpretation of long-term oncological outcomes. This systematic review (PROSPERO registration CRD42023470891) aimed to describe the current practice of outcome reporting in NST studies. A systematic search identified primary research studies published 01/01/2018-08/09/2023 reporting outcomes in patients receiving NST for breast cancer followed by locoregional treatment.

Antifibrotic therapy with nintedanib is the clinical mainstay in the treatment of progressive fibrosing interstitial lung disease (ILD). High-dimensional medical image analysis, known as radiomics, provides quantitative insights into organ-scale pathophysiology, generating digital disease fingerprints. Here, we performed an integrative analysis of radiomic and proteomic profiles (radioproteomics) to assess whether changes in radiomic signatures can stratify the degree of antifibrotic response to nintedanib in (experimental) fibrosing ILD.

Background: Radical gastrectomy remains the main treatment for gastric cancer, despite its high mortality. A clinical predictive model of 90-day mortality (90DM) risk after gastric cancer surgery based on the Spanish EURECCA registry database was developed using a matching learning algorithm. We performed an external validation of this model based on data from an international multicenter cohort of patients.
